Houghton Transportation...

Making our first trip to Isle Royale soon and wanted to know the best way to get from the airport to Houghton for a little grocery shopping and lunch before heading to the seaplane take off address.

From what I am seeing, Uber & Lyft are not serving this area as of yet.

Any recent experiences or recommendations for easy local transport?

Thanks

There is a local taxi service, don't think they have Uber.

Sounds like an unexplored economic opportunity for the non-traditionally retired…

Getting a cab in a small town can sometimes take some waiting. As a backup plan there are also cab services out of Calumet, which is about the same distance from the airport. There is also a limo service (Copper Country Limo). The seaplane dock is in Ripley, just east of Hancock, so you have to make your way to Hancock, regardless. There's a grocery in Hancock right on US-41 about 1/4 of the way down the hill. Kaleva Cafe is my choice for a decent good local grill in Hancock. In Houghton it's Roy's Pasties & Bakery or Suomi Kitchen. They are all open for breakfast and lunch. But if you're on a schedule for the plane, don't get stuck waiting for the lift bridge in Houghton (not normally more than a 10 minute wait but it does occasionally get stuck.) It's about a 2 mile walk from Kaleva's or Roy's to the seaplane dock along M-26.

Might be significant demand in the summer.

Update.....

We went with Copper Country Limo. Made email arrangements and sure enough, Charley was there to pick us up. He took us to a local grocery store and waited while we shopped. Once done, he dropped us off at the sea plane location. Great Service!!
