What are you going to use your REI dividend on? 2011 edition

Post by fonixmunkee »

It's dividend time again! REI has your dividends ready and has a 20% off coupon to boot (MEM2011, through April 10th). It's the one time of year you can not feel bad about not shopping at your local gear store and getting a killer deal. So what are you going to get this year? Post it here!

I'm actually stumped as to what to get this year. I know I need new boots, but I'm completely unsure of what brand to buy. Any suggestions for me?

Well, I was going to use it on a dream vacation to Europe but since it's not actually enough to buy a Snickers bar......

Having worn Vasque for years, and then switching to Asolo the last round, I can say I highly recommend the Asolos. Comfort out of the box, and they seem to be holding up quite well. I have the 520s. Spendy, but worth it. (Especially at 20% off)

For myself, I wore out a rain jacket on last fall's hike. I'll be needing to replace it. Another thread folks noted the Marmot Pre-cip, so I might have to check that one out... I'm looking for light, yet durable.. I had a high end Mountain Hardware jacket that just didn't hold up. Argh.

My current pair are La Sportiva FC ECO 4.0. I have to highly recommend them. Great ankle support, comfortable, and excellent waterproofing.

I bought a Jetboil Flash and the Big Agnes insulated sleeping pad with my dividend.

I have always been a fan of Asolo.

My parents were REI members back when the catalog was a mimeographed flier, I didn't have my own membership until the early '70s. The originally REI was a sort of "anarcho-syndicalist commune" providing backpacking supplies to hippies. A lot has changed since the '60s.

I took advantage of my dividend last week and bought a pair of Lowa Zephyr boots. Between my dividend and the member coupon, it cost me $100 bucks! Can't wait to get out on the trail soon.

I don't buy much that's not on sale, so I got a whopping $7.30. Need some new jungle mocs.

That's the part I don't get; you're basically getting your own money back.

I hooked up with my new pair of boots this weekend from REI. That 20% off coupon + dividend kind of makes this whole backpacking thing cost-effective ;)

I applied my whopping $3.47 combined with my 20% off coupon toward a Passage 2 tent.

Used my dividend, 20% off member coupon, and took advantage of their annual sale to buy a brand new stove (Whisperlite), some quick dry pants, and a pack cover for my osprey. Pack cover was much needed since last year on the Island I used a large garbage bag when it rained. Haha, that only worked so well.

Next I'm saving money for some Asolo boots.
