Sleeping Bag

Post by Ingo »

Got a 35 deg Mt Hardwear Lamina for my birthday. About 1/2 the wgt and 1/3 the size of my 30 yr old North Face 20 deg. Wow does it pack up small for synthetic! I figure it should be perfect for I.R. Reviews indicate it really is good down into the 30s, which may be better than my old one is anymore--figure I'll pick up a liner for colder weather. I may have to camp in the yard one night to test it out, since I don't have any trips planned soon.

You can also sleep in long underwear, use some foot booties, hot water bottles, etc in case you hit one of those cold, raining IR trips like my wife and I's last one.

What type of padding are you planning to use? Cold spots, even in a warm bag, will keep you awake.

Yeah, always bring lightweight longjohns anyways. It should be fine for I.R. in the summer, even on those cold rainy days.

Use old basecamp Therma-rests that come in at 4+ lbs. Very comfy, and fine for paddling, but too bulky (and heavy) for backpacking. Got lighter, smaller, not very comfy even older t-rests I can use in a pinch. But next on my upgrade list is probably the Neoair Trekker or maybe a Prolite Plus. I need 25" wide in any case, since my Therma-rest chair is an essential.

Yeah I got a Big Agnes with one of their inflatable air mattress. Its nice for sleeping on the ground but I use a hammock so I kinda slip off of it as I roll around. Thinking of getting a thinner thermrest type one and I like the idea of a camp chair.
