Does anyone know if the no fires regulation on off trail camping. Obviously applies to campfires, but does it apply to stoves as well?

Just wondering in case I need an extra "no cook meal" or two.

We were not given specific instructions on stoves during the LNT discussion so we assumed we could use them wherever we were.

That is my thinking, they never said that a stove couldn't be used trail side so I see no difference between that and off trail camping.

There is a big difference between stopping trail side for a meal and off trail camping. There are strict regulations covering off trail camping. It is also called back country camping. All of the regulations can be found in this link.

Thanks Midwest Ed, I was using Mikes guide book for my backcountry info.I think I will just go no cook and make it easy on myself.I will ask the park ranger when we get our permit.

I know of no general limitations to using a backpacking stove for either a trail lunch or back country camping. I was just making sure you knew there was more to back country camping than cooking issues.

One last thing—while researching this trail prior to my trip, I read a description of the Minong trail. I think I read it on this forum. The description: “The Minong is a lot of up and down, but no in and out.” I still laugh when I think about it!

The most hilarious description I read regarding the Minong was: "The Minong - Where the weak are eaten."
