Tentative Itinerary Feedback Requested

Post by KevinWelch »

I've got a couple weeks I'm taking off this summer and wanted to spend it on Isle Royale. I've been working on an itinerary and would like some feedback on this plan. There are three unplanned zero days to take where I feel like it, probably after some of the longer days.

Aug 19 - Day 2 - McCargoe Cove - 10.38 MI
Aug 20 - Day 3 - Todd Harbour - 6 MI
Aug 21 - Day 4 - Little Todd Harbour - 6.3 MI
Aug 22 - Day 5 - Lake Desor - 5 MI
Aug 23 - Day 6 - Huginnin Cove - 12 MI
Aug 24 - Day 7 - Windigo - 3.9 Miles -- PICK UP RESUPPLY
Aug 25 - Day 8 - Feldtmann Lake - 8.7 MI
Aug 26 - Day 9 - Siskiwit Bay - 10.1 MI
Aug 27 - Day 10 - Island Mine - 4.3 MI
Aug 28 - Day 11 - S. Lake Desor - 5.4 MI
Aug 29 - Day 12 - Hatchett Lake - 8.3 MI
Aug 30 - Day 13 - Chicken Bone Lake - 7.9 MI
Sept 1 - Day 14 - Lane Cove - 13 MI
Sept 2 - Day 15 - Rock Harbour - 6.9 MI

Looks like a fantastic route/time to see the entire island. The Minong section will be the toughest/most scenic/less congested.

Wow, that is QUITE the trip! Have fun! You're hitting a lot of great places and are really going to get a taste for the island.

I like how you refer to a two-week-plus hike as "some time" on Isle Royale. :)

Just an FYI, the hike from Lake Desor (I'm assuming North Lake Desor) to Hugginin is going to be a death slog. If your along the Feldtmann, that's the second-toughest section to hike. Bring lots of water, because you won't find much until you're heading down the ridge into the Washington Harbor area.

Enjoy, and we look forward to a trip report!
