First time on IR backpacking-trail advice

Post by aaronstephen »

Hi All!

My son and I are planning a trip up this labor week. We’re hoping to be hiking 4-5 days on the island. Any recommendations on trail routes? Looking to do some fishing as well.

We will most likely be starting from Rock Harbor.

You could just do an east side loop. You could start and end in rock harbor by making a large loop using the RH/Tobin harbor trail and the greenstone. We did a similar trip last year. You can find the video link to our trip here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... tPyHB1ymtF. Check out the greenstone newspaper and the trip planner spreadsheet found on the forums here. Those can be super helpful with route planning. We also really liked the nat geo map for planning. It is super detailed and has good info on it. Have fun planning!!

If you're coming from MN you could also do the Feldtmann Loop on the west end (about 30 miles). And if that's not enough, add the Huginnin Cove loop at the end (+10).
