Salmon Runs

Post by hooky » Sun Nov 01, 2015 6:43 pm

What salmon run on the island and when/where do they run? I'm only familiar with the coasters, but have heard recently of pinks. Just wondering what runs and if a trip could be planned around them.

Maybe address your question to the park service or the Michigan DNR, Fisheries Division.

Looking at the NPS website, you can find Coho, Chinook and Atlantic salmon in the waters bordering Isle Royale. No idea if they run there or not.

After researching it some more, I'm inclined to believe that they don't run. They would have had to have been stocked on the island as fry in order for them to return and run. NPS is saying they don't stock them.
