I was on the island from 6-4 to 6-12. we visited the island with my boat and stayed mostly on the east end and also at chippewa harbor and the bugs were not that bad. No black flies at all and the skeeters came out around 9pm. I think the 40-45 degree evenings keep most of them away! Didn't do much hiking though as we mostly fished. We did hike to Lake Mason and they were pretty thick in there, but i didn't need to use the bug net, so they were tolerable!
hiked 2000, hiked 2001, boater in 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011, solo hiked 2016, boater 2018, boater 2021, Boater 2022

Just returned. Skeeters were a nuisance on the hugginin cove trail in the rain, did use head nets, could not take them off. around washington creek not bad. other people who went to feldtman said bugs were not bad. used deet 100% once a day as a quick spray at dusk while moose watching. Passed on my head nets to a family hiking after us.
