July weather

Post by zims »

Can someone enlighten me on July weather and bugs on the west end? Have been there in August and June, but am worried about bug problems and too many visitors.

Mid-July to mid-August is the busiest time, but the West end is always less traveled. Blackflies should be all gone, but mosquitoes are weather-dependent and come out strong after a rainy spell.

Weather SHOULD be pretty nice, but nights can still get chilly.

October is guaranteed cold and you will have around 15-16 hours of darkness so bring books and headlamps, especially if you stay where there are no campfires. We had ice on the water in the mornings the years we went in October. No bugs, though!!

Campsite stay limits are off at that time so one possibility is to base camp and dayhike. We did that one Spring at Chippewa Harbor. Nice to be able to bring the coleman stove and a cooler! You can also bring more clothing and sleeping gear.
