That’s two years in a row an ice bridge formed between the mainland and the Island. A wolf left the island last year, and these two came (and went) this year. Interesting.

the supprising part is they stayed that long... west pack used to be big enough that their scent marking could have scared them off, or the pack itself would have run them off of their teritory. Based on the reports from GP, the moos population is pretty low there it is kind of supprising with the high moose population on the island that they didnt stay... unless they were actually run off. Will be intresting to hear the study's perspective.

In the glass is half full department, we only know those two came because one was radio collared and the boys of the winter study saw them. What's to say there weren't others that came across the ice bridge and perhaps at least one stayed?

Dare to dream!

I find it really interesting that wolves have crossed on an ice bridge two years in a row. Kind of like (to paraphrase Field of Dreams), "if you build it, they will use it."

For what it's worth, according to the Canadian ice page website, an ice bridge has been in place for the past few weeks (meaning after the researchers left). Even now, there's a thick ice bridge in place between the Island and the mainland. But it won't last. Historically, the ice pack on the Lake starts to breakup in mid-March.

Yeah, the ice bridge broke up in a hurry. It was there only a few days back. Shows you what a strong March sun, warming temps, and a good wind will do.

This article gives a little background to the information in John’s 11/1/2017 post.

Interesting about the wolves that came to IRNP and went back to the mainland.

It only took two and a half years, but at least somebody “got it”!🤡
