Awesome that it's coming to Duluth! I plan on going, anyone else? November 9th, at Weber Music Hall on the UMD campus.

Dave and I were fortunate to be the first folks to view "Fortunate Wilderness" at its premier on the island that Friday night, July 25, 2008. The park rangers made this "Black Fly" event ( poking fun at a Black Tie event) so much fun! They literally rolled out "the Red Carpet" for Rolf Peterson, John V, and both pilots named Don. I think the reason the room was so crowded was because the Don Murray family reunion took up a lot of seating. It was such a privilege to meet Rolf and John V, and they are truly humble beings. The film producer on the other hand was somewhat haughty and secretive. I didn't enjoy speaking with him as he would not answer some of my questions regarding filming spots. In fact, he blew me off each time I approached him with questions.
He did have some amazing underwater footage of moose grazing that I thought was excellent content. Dave and I are huge fans of PBS's Nature series but we recognized that Mr Desorts film still needs a lot of editing and revision. Being a beginner film maker (and former ski instructor), I believe Mr Desort is on his way. He definitely has the smug attitude to match his wannabe Hollywood image. We wish him all the best.

Word is spreading about the premiere of this film in Duluth, MN around the internet, check it out:

http://www.perfectduluthday.com/2008/10 ... rness.html

http://northernlightsbooks.blogspot.com ... oyale.html

Also notice in the second link:
Also include a visit down to the bookstore November 8th, Saturday morning at 10am to meet Carolyn Peterson. Carolyn Peterson will be in the store (I think she'll have her husband Rolf Peterson with her...) signing copies of her book A View from the Wolf's Eye, a memoir detailing her life on Isle Royale, including raising a family in the back country and other impressions of life on the magnificent island.
A very cool opportunity, and I hope anyone in the Duluth/Superior area takes advantage of it. I wish I could make it... :(

Hi all,

Went and saw the film last night. Pretty good. John V gave a little talk before and then he and George Desort (filmmaker) did a Q&A afterwards.

http://www.fortunatewilderness.com/

for info on future screenings and, eventually according to George, DVD copies for sale. Also a trailer to watch.

That's really odd. I just watched it too. As a matter of fact, I sent the link to my parents so they could watch it. I wonder if they saw it before it disappeared?

I dropped a line to George Desort. His reply::

Bob,

Thanks for attending the screening at the Rozsa. The website is still a work in progress, but I imagine the trailer will be back up by tomorrow evening.

Thanks for your interest.

Just FYI. I sent an email about a bad link on the Fortunate Wilderness website and also inquired about the missing movie trailer. This was my email and George's response:

-------

George,
I just wanted to let you know that the link "The Wolves and Moose of Isle Royale Website" on the "About" page does not work. I also wanted to inquire about the Fortunate Wilderness movie trailer. Where did it go? I saw it on the previous site but this new site does not have a link to it.

Thanks,
Brian

-------

Brian,

Thanks for the heads up on the ISRO wolf.org site, I will pass along the information to the webmaster. As for the trailer, it was taken down by the folks running the site as we have a production house putting together a fresh trailer for the site.

Thanks for your interest and please visit http://www.fortunatewilderness.com at the end of the coming week as we hope to have a few additions to the site.

Best,
George

FROM GEORGE DESOR'S EMAIL RESPONSE:
Thanks for your interest in Fortunate Wilderness. The DVD will be available in the Spring of 2009.
We are in the process of booking theaters and submitting the project to filmfests throughout the midwest.
I will keep your email on file, but check back at
