Give Houghton a call.

I have enjoyed your TR, felt like I was there with you. Good for you getting a compass and learning how to use it. Too many people buy a GPS and never learn to use a compass. Everyone gets lost at some point. It usually leads to an experience like yours, the outcome being better skills development. You learned things on this trip, Good Trip!!!

Tim,

In one of your posts you say, "I vow never to ask directions again." I say always ask directions if unsure (if you can). I've been lost a few times too and it isn't fun. When I was on the Minong Tr. I would check our compass bearing from time to time to get a general feeling which direction to go if I (we) got off the trail. A good map of the trail should be consulted from time to time as well.

The longest I was alone at ISRO is about 30 hours. And that was in the summer months. Look forward to your pictures and thanks for sharing your report.

THE PICTURES AND VIDEOS HAVE BEEN UPLOADED TO THEIR CORRESPONDING DAYS OF MY TRIP REPORT. LOOK AT THE PREVIOUS POSTS I MADE IN THIS THREAD TO CHECK THEM OUT. THE 4 VIDEOS THAT HAVE BEEN UPLOADED IN PART ONE OF MY MAY 7TH POSTING NEED TO BE CLICKED ON IN ORDER TO VIEW THEM. IF YOU HAVE AN DIFFICULTIES VIEWING ANYTHING LET ME KNOW. THANKS.

John:

Without a doubt, you are correct in saying that this experience has led me to purse developing crucial hiking skills like learning how to navigate with a compass, let alone buying one. It's better than this happened sooner rather than later. Now I can feel more confident and safe while I am on the trail. At the time, I was freaking out, but without having been in that position, I would never have considered purchasing a compass.

Jerry:

Thank you for your concern. I wasn't being serious about the whole bit about never asking for directions. It was just a joke aimmed at Gimp as we spoke about how I kinda wimped out at the end of my try. If I am ever lost, have a non-functional compass, and lost my map....I will definitely ask for guidance. Heck, even if I have a compass and map I still might ask for help if I find myself in an unsafe situation. Sorry if I came off ignorantly macho. Sometimes its hard to tell when someone is kidding on here and where they are being serious. So again, thank you for being concerned about the note I made to Gimp even though I was playing around.

Placebo:

Welcome to the forums man. You made my day posting about how much you enjoyed my trip report especially since it was your second post on the forums. Good luck with your upcoming trip that you plan on taking soon from Windigo to Rock Harbor back to Windigo. If you need any advice or have any questions don't hesistate to ask. I hope it turns out to be an awesome trip.

Rafiki - - - Did secure your MC Shelter No. 4 note and have forwarded same to Gerry. Also noted some new carving in same shelter - - looked almost only a day or two fresh. And thanks for leaving the table inside; saved me some exertion.

Oh yeah! I heard about this at Rock Harbor. The NPS Forensics crew had just gotten back. They figured with some guy pining about missing "Shelly" and putting the dates, it was going to be one of their easier ones to track. :P

Hardy-Har-Har lets pick on the noob that gets lost and doesn't bring a compass :P Ya you got the mega tongue sticking out at you face for that one :)

P.S. Apparently, you cannot make a mega tongue sticking out face by adjusting the font size, so you get the typical small one, but I am giving you three more just for good measure :P :P :P

He hasn't posted in the new year!

The search for RAF, "Mighty Minong Master", continues. 8)

Just razzin'. :P

Fun report. :)
