2015 Solo Backpacking Trip of the Greenstone Ridge Trail

Post by Kakabeka Kevin »

Early in 2015 I enjoyed a great first trip to Isle Royale. I did a solo thru-hike of the Greenstone Ridge Trail from Hidden Lake to Windigo. I had a great time and enjoyed moose and unique vegetation. I would definitely go back.

Check out my trip on my YouTube channel...

My advice for anyone contemplating a first trip is to take the time and plan it out. I used a spreadsheet and map to develop a large number of options before I decided on the my final itinerary. The ferry schedule creates lots of complications but also opportunities.

edited to add: Very nice video report. Enjoyed it greatly. I get the feel your a botanist.

Kevin, Thanks for your videos. My top 5 list of what I like about ISRO does include no bears as #1, no lyme disease (no deer) is #2, no poison ivy/oak (that I have ever seen) is #3, nice trails is #4 and the campgrounds/shelters is #5. Maybe #1 should be the lack of crowds (once you leave downtown Isle Royale) at the east end of the island. I'm looking forward to next year's trip.
