Old river name

Post by porter »

I found an old photo on ebay. The written description on the back of photo is "Isle Royale, Black River, 8th fall from mouth looking down". the description also states july 30th 89 and is stamped Oct 15 1946.

Any cross references of old names? The little siskiwit river at hay bay has a bunch of falls, could this be it?

I think that photo is mislabeled.

I suspect it is actually a picture of the Great Conglomerate Falls just N. of Bessemer, MI.

Ok that could be. It might not be isle royale at all, and the black river does have numerous falls.

Taking a step back, I had checked the place names of isle royale book and it states the little siskiwit river was also called the sibley river, but its seems to me if it was referring to the outlet of siskiwit lake, which the books describes accurately and calls the little siskiwit river. So i thought maybe the little siskiwit flowing into hay bay may also had another name...

I couldn't find any old maps to check names but intrigued me just the same..
One thing I am sure of is the little siskiwit river at hay bay has an extensive, picturesque run of falls well worth exploring
