Norm Bragg was a lucky man on this date in 1953. 3 hatches on the Steinbrenner were blown off by a storm near Isle Royale and Lake Superior was filling into the hull. He abandoned ship in 20 foot waves and was picked up by a passing freighter. Bragg continued sailing until 1966 when he was lost on the Daniel J Morrell- last seen helping survivor Dennis Hale to the liferaft off Michigan's Thumb. Steinbrenner is still missing in deep water some 20 miles south of Isle Royale's lighthouse.
