New Pack on the Way

Post by hooky »

I just ordered a new pack on a whim, a 50L Katahdin from Jansport. I figured for $50 all in I could find someone who would want this if I don't like it. Anyone have any feedback on this pack. I only know Jansport from the backpack I carried in college a couple of decades ago. I still have that pack, BTW. :)

I still have a Jansport external frame from ~20 years ago. It went on lots of trips and is still in good shape! It dosent fit me anymore, but I am keeping it around for any future backpacking children I might raise :)

FWIW, I still have an old Jansport external frame as well. It will turn 16 this December. I recently upgraded this spring, but it is still as functional as ever, but by shoulders couldn't take the lack of load lifter straps anymore.

Jansport may not be the most advanced or lightest gear maker, but they are sturdy if taken care of and the price point can't be beat.

The pack has been here for a while now. I will say, for the money it seems to be a great piece of equipment. It's very well constructed and looks like it will hold up over time. It's only 2 pounds and I've loaded it out for a week long trip to weigh it. If I add what my food would weigh, it's still under 30. It's a tad small for me, but I think it will find a home here with either my wife or one of my kids.
