While this event is known more for affecting the BWCA, it caused damage to IR. The blowdown event in the BWCA led to the Ham Lake fire in '07 burning 75,000 acres of the BWCA. The fire was started by an illegal campfire.

2 Lightning caused fire started in the BWCA in the last few days. Still great deal of unburned blowdowns from the derecho left there.

I saw that one big one was going up west of Insula and it looks like several small ones around Ely. Canada is on fire right now too.

I always chuckle when I hear people say the can't find firewood in the BW. Set up camp, get back in your canoe, go 50-100 yds down the shoreline, get out and walk 15 feet into the woods with your saw. You literally step over downed trees to get to the 15 feet mark in.
