Isle Royale and Beyond DVD

Post by Backpacker534 »

For anyone who may be interested in a new Isle Royale video, check out the Sweetwater Visions website. The authors, John and Ann Mahan, have been visiting Isle Royale for 25 years. They do a lot of good photography work and are putting together a DVD all about the island. The video will be about 45 minutes long, with over 300 photos, text, music and narration. The video is in pre-release and will be available sometime around the end of February 2010. I already have a copy pre-ordered and can't wait for it to arrive.

If the book has photos like I've seen on their website then I'm sure it is pretty impressive. Did you order the book from their website, or can you find it at a local brick & mortar store?

Ironically, it was a gift from a friend we met on IR. He happened to be on the Voyageur with the Mahans and ordered it through them.

----- UPDATE -----

I've been eagerly awaiting my Isle Royale and Beyond DVD. It was supposed to be out around the end of February. Well, I just checked their website and it appears that the release date has been pushed back until the end of April 2010. :(
Time to wait some more....

Cool! It's funny that you posted this message today because my wife just asked me a couple hours ago if I ever got the DVD she ordered for me for Christmas. I told her it hadn't come yet so I was going to send them an email. I'm glad I logged onto the forums before sending the email. I'm eagerly awaiting the disk. :D

Ughh. I'm still waiting for mine. Hopefully it will come before I leave for the island on May 15. It would be a great way to get me ready for the hike, although, I must say, I'm quite ready right now. It would just be icing on the cake.

I watched mine. It is about 49 minutes long and contains a lot of very nice photography work. The Mahan's narrate the entire disk and there are a couple songs on it as well. They discuss the history of the island and it's formation, the wildlife, their family experiences and more. I thought it was nicely done.
