Solar charger for camera battery?

Post by eddy_line »

Not sure if this question is for "Pictures" or "Gear," but I'll start here.

I have an Olympus Stylus Tough 8010 that I will be bringing to IR the end of July. Nice camera, has a lot to teach me, but I do know that it has an appetite for power. I will include a half dozen batteries, but wondering whether anyone has experience with a solar charger or other "wilderness" option for their camera battery. The 8010 charges via a usb port, and I do have an AC charger adapter.

Thanks.

Eddy, not a direct answer, but this may help... Many cameras have a setting for auto-focus on full-time or not. If it is On, then the camera will constantly focus whenever the camera is turned on. By turning it off, it will only focus when you press the shutter 1/2 way. This saves TONS on battery life. Check yours out and see if this may help.
