PSA: SPOT Messenger (gen 2) on sale for $45

Post by fonixmunkee »

I stumbled across this the other day, and wanted to share with other outdoor enthusiasts:

The SPOT 2 Satellite GPS messenger is currently on sale for for $50 off at Best Buy: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/2-satellite ... &cp=1&lp=1

This is the older version of the SPOT GPS messenger, but it still works just fine. It allows you to send basic text messages--including your location--to specific individuals or emergency rescuers. Please note, the SPOT service costs $100/year.

For me, this purchase was a no-brainer. I recently took an avalanche safety course and this was a highly-recommended device for backcountry skiers & sledders. Coupled with the backcountry hiking & camping we've been doing on IR, and I figured it was a worth-while investment.

Too bad you can't activate the service with the first remotely sent text message.
