Wolf encounter at Washington Creek Campground

Just before dawn on the morning of August 30, we were awoken by the sound of loud, low squawking coming from about 50 yards up Washington Creek from campsite 15. It lasted about 20 seconds, and sounded like a sandhill crane.
About 2 minutes later, we heard the footfalls of a large, panting canine as it ran directly in front of our shelter (about 5 feet from our heads). A few seconds later, another panting canine ran by.
I later confirmed with a park ranger that no NPS staff or concessionaire employees at Windigo have dogs.
