5/19-5/29 2023 [Hiking]

Post by Rafiki »

Hey guys, it’s been a while. I’m sad to see the forum seems to have less activity on it nowadays. I remember when this place was booming with new threads and posts. I wonder where most people are getting their information from if not here.

Anyways, I’m going for a 10 day hike. It’s been quite a while since I hiked the island. 11 years to be precise (gosh time certainly flys). I did do a one month kayaking trip in 2019. I don’t have an itinerary set into place yet. I’m still debating if I’m going to do big miles or take things leisurely. Is anyone else planning any trips between 5/19-5/29?
343.1 Miles Hiked: 2004 (3 Days), 2010 (11 Days), 2011 (13 Days), 2012 X 2 (8 + 12 Days), 2013 (9 Days/Paddling), 2019 (30 Days/Paddling)

Seems things are mostly on Facebook nowadays. I don't engage much there, each thread gets dozens of nearly identical replies from people who don't bother to read what else has been posted.

I'll be on the island around that time, taking it slow on the Feldtman loop!

Cool Jerry. If I do the Feldtmann loop, I might bump into you if you do it counterclockwise. Otherwise, there is always a chance I see you at Hugginin Cove if you are doing that at the tail end of your trip. Either way, whether we cross paths or not, I hope you have a wonderful trip

My daughter, niece and I will be flying in to Windigo on 5/21. Staying the first night at Island mine and then hiking to Rock Harbour.

Cool omarkoup. I probably won’t cross paths with you guys, but I hope you have a fun trip. More importantly, I hope you have good weather so there are no delays with the seaplane.

Thanks, I will be bringing extra food just in case. Looking forward to experiencing the Island in the spring for the first time.

I agree! I have noticed the same thing, and it's rather sad.

I have been a member of the forum for a long time and used to be very active, but that is when my buddy and I were visiting the island just about every other year.

This forum is the best place for information sharing and gathering, and trip planning. That is precisely why I am back here. Two of my buddies and I will be backing Isle Royale again in May, after a long 11-year hiatus.

This forum has always had a great group of people! They are always willing to contribute news, share experiences, and help first-timers plan their trips.

We will likely cross paths with you near the end of our trip a couple times. We'll be coming out of Feldtmann Lake about the time you are heading in & then maybe again up in Huginnin Cove after we check out Grace & Beaver Islands. We'll be hard to miss with the red & yellow packrafts.

Rafiki!

Good to see you on here. Enjoy your hike. Not in the cards for me this season, so please post a report so I can live vicariously through you.

Great Jerry. Keep an eye out for a guy wearing a white Hyperlite Mountaineering Gear backpack. Hopefully we’ll cross paths.
