Good info johnhens! We will be there Aug 23-26 for our first trip. Where do you check ahead to see if there is anything cool going on at night?

2018 Perseid Meteor Showers

For folks who wil be on the Island August 10-13th, if it is clear, make sure to take in the Perseid Meteor Showers. Isle Royale was chosen as the darkest National Park in the lower 48. It should be a great place to see the Perseids. When we go up we always check to see if there might be anything coo...

Re: Finding moose

Washington Harbor/Windigo CG seems to be a regular place to see moose feeding either in the creek or the mouth of the creek where it empties into Washington Harbor.

Re: First trip coming up this month.. need advice!

Rock Harbor can get rough. Helpful to have a handheld VHF for weather. Gives you options. Nice paddle along the shore and the islands. Re: NPS to make changes in Windigo

Thanks for sharing -- interesting ideas for Windigo. I did a quick review, need to ponder my response. I took one of the best showers of my life in Windigo, but they sure could use updated facilities! I have watched and helped folks navigate the steep walkway to the VC. The store is too small. I am...

Re: Fly and Skeeter check

Blackflies souldn't be a problem. Mosquitoes could be if there has been rain. We go early or late in the season, always bring headnets.

Superior Delivery Service : Duluth to Grand Portage

Folks have posted in the past about transit from Duluth to Grand Portage to catch the ferry, or (now), to Grand Marais to take the seaplane.
Superior Delivery Service out of Hovland can do the trip. Call ahead to make sure they are available.

Re: EverClear on Seaplane

According to the Travle guidelines from the webpage, no flameable liquids can be taken on the plane. This would include Everclear as it is extemely flameable.

Re: Rock of Ages lighthouse restoration 2018

Given the Island can be seen in the shot, I think this orientation or one facing IR would be good. I am guessng any other driection would just show water.
