At the Malone dock, there is a little cabin. There is (or used to be) a contour map of Siskiwit Lake on the wall. If it is there, take some time to look at dropoffs where summer trout will hang out. Vertical jigging would be a good bet in August along the deeper droppoffs. I would have 3 or 4" white...

You don't need microspikes. As far as trails, depends on spring, there may be snow patches in shaded spots depending on how cool spring is. Trail will be muddy, how muddy depends on how much rain occurs and how frequent the sun is out. Good thing about that time of year is generally not a lot of lea...

Given the reefs surrounding IR (plus I would guess they would have to get some kind of commercial permit from the NPS), don't see this happening.

Looking at the MODIS images, looks to be ice around the island. It will be interesting to see when they go out. I know cloud cover over the lake can be a limiting factor for the flights out there (I believe they fly from Ely).
