Re: Fishing Kayaks on inland lakes

I have done a few trips with a good friend who has a Hobie. He has used it for both inland lakes and Superior (With good weather). He had the model you can pedal as well as using a sail rig (we sailed it on Siskiwit).

Re: Trout or salmon unique to I.R.

Lake Trout(known by various names) in Siskiwit Lake are a genetic species seperate from the Lake Trout found in Superior. There are also Lake Trout around IR in Superior that live there also and are not found elsewhere. For the most part you need a boat (canoe or kayak) to fish Siskiwit as you have ...

Re: Up to 6 wolves to be introduced this fall

From the NPS: Two more wolves have arrived on the island! On Tuesday, October 2nd, NPS boat BEAVER transported this five year old female from Minnesota, who waited in the crate for less than an hour. On Thursday, October 4th, a two year old female arrived via seaplane from Minnesota. She quietly exi...

Re: NPS officially moving forward with introducing new wolves to IRNP

The 2 instances I remember where a wolf was seen specifically in a campground was the one in Daisy Farm corroborated by park rangers and another one in Siskiwit CG. The Siskiwit CG incident was substantiated with photos of a wolf walking down a campground trail that was aware of nearby people but i...

Re: NPS officially moving forward with introducing new wolves to IRNP

I’m all for reintroduces wolves to Isle Royale. My only concern is how these new wolves will react to humans. I can’t imagine being a solo hiker and run into a small pack on the trail. That would be scary. The wolves will most likely come from Ontario. I can't imagine they have not had exposure to ...

Re: circumnavegation IR

I have stayed at Little Todd once while paddling the North side. No one there besides us in August. Stayed at Hugginin a few times both hiking and paddling, did not have a problem with getting a site. I have talked to various folks who have paddled the SW side. Plenty of good places to camp along th...
