Did that a couple years ago before the permit system was put in place. I hope that system will be much better for t...

Re: Fall Storm Sept 2019

The Ranger III did not make the outbound trip to Isle Royale last Tuesday Sept. 3. They headed down the portage canal and got out just past the breakwater and ran into 14' and greater waves. Captain decided to turn around and return to Houghton. The Ranger III departed without incident the followin...

Re: Success fishing?

Chickenbone is good for pike and folks have caught walleye there. Maybe perch. I know a few folks have caught fish off the dock at Daisy. Remember you need a MI license to fish Superior.

Re: TR- 8/9-17, 2019 by kayak Tobin and Rock Harbor

Too bad about the knee and camera. 3 of us did the Tobin portage ( Duncan to Tobin) with kayaks. Took a while, can't imagine doing it solo. Sounds like you made the best of your time!!

Re: Draft Cultural Resource Mgmnt Plan/Environmental Assessment

This is a big deal. This plan has been decades in the making. Thanks for posting it, John. All: if you enjoy the history and culture of Isle Royale, you'll want to review this document and provide any public input soon. The outcome of this plan could massively affect the buildings, history, people,...

Re: Paddling/Fishing

If you have read other posts about canoing IR, you know of the hazzards that can occur if the wind picks up. If you haven't, Blake Pt., Hill Pt, Locke Pt can be dangerous if the lake is kicking up. If you get to Belle Isle, there are reefs between Belle and Johnson Is. You can trying jigging or trol...
