I had no idea that a black coat is genetic trait gained from mating with American domestic dogs a while back, and is a single gene. Turns out if a wolf holds both chromosomes, it will have a shorter than av...

Re: TR: 5/27 - 5/31 2019 [Rock Harbor trail there-and-back]

A few days ago, I was going through boxes of maps for an upcoming trip (not to IR). When I think of a trip I would like to do, the first thing I do is get the maps for the area I would like to go to. Re: Headed to island next week: advice?

The nest is huge and built with large branches industrial strength! Would recommend taking the Tobin Harbour loop going b...

Re: Malone Bay kayak day trips?

Wright Isle may be closed due to Bald Eagles nesting, though you are going in August. Malone, Hat and Ross are easy to get to and protected if the lake is kicking up. As you are portaging over from Siskiwit, go straight to the water when you see the shelters. There is a gravel "beach" there, though ...

Re: Monster Lake Trout

...to determine how Lake Trout are doing... ...I'd say that one is doing just fine! Imagine catching that if you were out in the kayak or a canoe. (I did catch one heck of a monster northern in Wood Lake several years back, and we had no way to get it into the canoe. The only option was to get it t...

Re: Blisters

Leukotape is a good preventative. Also Band Aid makes blister pads that are a preventative.
