I am guessing the low numbers for last year was due to the Island only being serviced by the seaplanes and folks on private boats.

Re: Fishing Duncan Bay

We fished the bay near the CG at the back for Northern and did very well. I spoke to some fisherman who trolled both sides of the "narrows" where the CG is and did well in the Spring and Fall for Lake Trout.

Re: Wild Cow Parsnip

Can you get sap on you from just brushing through intact plants? Curious how a hiker would avoid exposure and how to get it off of clothing when backpacking along the trails mentioned. I have experience with Wild Parsnip from doing prairie restoration. Nasty stuff. I was removing it (shovel) and mu...

Wild Cow Parsnip

Somone posted about Wild Cow Parsnip on the trail between Feldtmann and Siskiwit. If you brush against it and are exposed to the sun you will get blisters/burns from the phototoxins in the sap. If you rbush up against it, wash off with soap and water. Also around Windigo. https://www.dec.ny.gov/anim...

Re: Where to see a Moose?

Thanks everyone for all the information. I'm not sure yet of our itinerary other than at least one night at Moskey Basin (hoping for a nice sunrise). I will look on the map to find Washington Creek and see if we can plan around being near there some evening or morning. Walk the trail towards Lake R...

Text a bouy in the Great Lakes for reports

Came across this and thought it might be useful. Text a weather bouy on the Great Lakes and you will receive a weather report from that bouy. http://www.rockthelake.com/buzz/2018/07/text-a-great-lakes-buoy-and-itll-text-you-back-with-the-latest-water-conditions/?fbclid=IwAR1eGe9rtPzr7JgNz3nsw_xvrzJ0...

Fire ban

Due to drought conditions, the NPS has instituted a fire ban on IR. No fires of any kind are allowed including campfires, and cooking fires anywhere on the Island. Fuel cook stoves and twig stoves are ok.
