Re: 1st Trip To Isle Royale Report

Day 3: began at about 7 am for me. We broke camp and quickly got going on our longest hike, 12 miles to Todd Harbor, via Hatchet Lake. After having breakfast we immediately headed off. As some of you probably know the accent to the Greenstone ridge trail is very very steep, and for us turned almost ...

1st Trip To Isle Royale Report

Well I have finally gotten the time and motivation to do a trip report for my 1st Isle Royale trip. 7/19-7/25 Day one: On day one we got up at 3 am at Upper Peninsula bible camp in Little Lake MI. (about 30 miles south of Marquette) We drove up to Copper Harbor, one of the most scenic drives I have ...

Re: any recent bug reports?

I was there last week and they were pretty bad if there was no wind and in the valleys between ridges, and in dense woods. They were absolutely terrible at Todd Harbor and the trail along Hatchet Lake. Everywhere else they were manageable.

Re: july 19th to July 26th (we actually came back the 25th)

I went swimming in todd harbor on the 22nd and I was in for almost a minute. Probably the coldest water I've ever swam in, started hyperventilating at the end!

Re: Snakes.....

I just got back and lost count at the number of snakes we saw, somewhere between 20 and 30, all over the island. I only saw the normal variety, no interesting color forms.

Re: Fishing East End of Isle Royale

well unfortunately the fishing was not great this time, I only caught 1 about 5 lb. northern out of Chickenbone the whole trip. I didn't catch a single pike at Richie :( or Mccargo or todd or Daisy farm I think it was mostly because I didn't have a boat and could not really fish the weed edged on ...

Re: Huge Blisters 6 days before going to Isle Royale

I can tell they are already healing because they have shrunk and don't hurt anymore. I bought some moleskin to but in my boots for hiking on Isle Royale.
Thanks for the advice, hopefully I will be able to enjoy Isle Royale with no blisters

Huge Blisters 6 days before going to Isle Royale

Well I don't know how but I got a blister on each foot the size of a nickel.
How long will they take to heal?
Will I be able to hike with them?
Are there any ways to speed up healing?

Thanks for any responses.

Re: Fishing East End of Isle Royale

Also what do you guys think the water temp will be 3rd week of July in indland lakes, I was thinking high 60s low 70s. Is that about right, I would really like to do some swimming but don't want to regret it when I jump into 60 degree water. The Lake will probably be low to mid 50s correct, I have ...

Re: Fishing

That is odd that Desor has no game fish, I think it is because it is not connected to lake Superior by any water, not even any wet swamps., Hatchet may have winterkill? It is very shallow

Re: Fishing East End of Isle Royale

Thanks for the info, so apparently not much chance a a nice pike in either lake but lots of medium sized fish.

I still think it'll be alot of fun catching the fish.
