Re: Sea Hunter III trip canceled, plus a question

I saw the Sea Hunter for the first time at Rock Harbor near the end of June. I guess they were doing a lighthouse tour.

Re: Itinerary Input...

Hopefully when you get to C.H., the family that was out fishing the days I was there, will be there. Lots of fried lake trout for them and yours truly. Lucky me! Enjoy your trip!

Mott Island trails

I haven't done the Mott Is. Trails. Can't remember (I'm old) if I've read anyone's report on hiking them. Suggestions/comments would be appreciated.

A few years ago, we had to go back and pick up a canoe in the middle of Lake Superior (high waves that day).

Re: data Minong

Probably everyone has a story about the N. Desor to Wash. Creek hike. My hiking partner that day was a former marine with survival training. We followed a well used trail into a bog (this is just after the last? beaver dam). After wasting a lot of time, we back tracked to near the beaver dam and fou...

Re: What to expect in late Aug-early Sept.

The two times I've been at ISRO in September, storms caused high waves on Lake Superior. The ferry from Copper Harbor was supposed to pick us up I believe on a Sunday. Because of waves of up to 15 feet it finally got there on Tuesday. The ferry from Grand Portage picked us on time, but we had 6-8 wa...

Re: Floorless Tarp Tent on Minong Bad Idea?

The night I arrived at McCargo it rained. The next 4 days and nights on the Minong included wet trails in spots as noted above, yet dry camp sites.

Watch out for the fox too. Years ago, at Washington Creek/Windigo, there was one named "stealy" Dan. The gray jays are also excellent thieves!

Re: Life of a Ranger on IR

A few years ago, a Ranger was checking my permit at Daisy Farm. I mentioned to him, that I heard a helicopter flying over the island. He told me about being up for more then 24 hours and looking forward to gether some sleep. Apparently, a hiker/camper was injured and was medically evacuated. He and ...

Wildcat, I believe any of these trips are going to be enjoyable for you and the grandkids! Notice from a another person from Ohio (Dayton). You'll need to plan lots of trips in the future. This NP keeps drawing me back. Hope to meet you someday at the Park (or Ohio).

Re: Finding moose

I was in a shelter for 4 evenings. The bull walked through my/our camp site every night on its way t...
