The Ellesmere Wolves
L. David Mech has another book out this year. He and co-authors Morgan Anderson and H. Dean Cluff have written "The Ellesmere Wolves", its about their Behavior and Ecology in the High Arctic. These white wolves live on an island, in Canada's Nunavut province, near Greenland. I again was lucky to ...

Biology class topic
My grandson told me yesterday, that in his bio class (he just finished his first year of college at a local college -UD), the professor lectured on the ISRO wolf/moose long term study. That lead to a lot of discussion on my trips to our favorite NP, this during the Mother's Day meal. Lots of trips ...

Re: IR Emergencies and what to do
Many years ago, I was able to make two calls out of Malone Bay CG. I figured it must have been a satellite sending my calls to a tower in Minnesota, or somewhere.

Re: Beaver Island
I went out to Beaver Is. a couple of years ago. We had a row boat (rental). Going to and returning from that island, we had a lot of wind. Hopefully, if you go, it will be a calm day. We went right, then left and back to the right and then...Not much to see at that campground when we got there ...

Re: Who'd have thunk it?!?
Have I missed it? The stores, lodge and places to eat are staffed by a private company. I would think a portion of that private company's contract with the park, should include a payment to the Nation Park. Any lose of revenue by the boat companies, the float plane company(s), campgrounds in the UP ...

Re: HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT
As an old man, as the other Jerry can verify, I had hoped I could make one more trip to this nice place (ISRO NP). I'm not a happy camper. I now hope they don't close down our National Forest and or Corp. of Engineer campgrounds. That would really p... me off!

Re: New food storage regulations
I hope those that get to ISRO NP, in the early months of this season, will post the effects of the impact on our special park from what is happening in the DC. I'm also worried about the campgrounds in our National Forests and the Corp. of Engineer sites.

Re: New food storage regulations
G. My bear proof container is not light. I need a screw driver or a dime to get into it. I've never had an issue with any animal with my food, except a grey jay that got a nut I dropped. It got it within seconds. Hmm, re-thinking my possible summer trip.

Re: What impact will NPS firings have?
I figure I better not go to ISRO NP this year after all. I'm also worried about the campgrounds I depend upon, in our National Forests and those that are Corp. of Engineers. I'm old (born when FDR was our president). I'm not a happy camper, unless the NPs and other resources are open for our use ...

Re: Wolf troubles.
Back in 2001 a fox was called Steely Dan (us old ones enjoyed that 1) by a ranger. Not sure if this was the fox that stole everything it could. Shoes, clothing, food, equipment, etc. Also one year, there was a fox that was super skinny and didn't look too healthy. The staff was worried about it and ...

Re: Wolf troubles.
I plan to bring my bear proof container this year. I can't open it unless I have a dime or screw driver with me. I've had a number of foxes, over the years, sitting nearby, like they were wanting to be feed (like one of our pets).

Re: Ranger snacks?
Hmm! Maybe I should do the Superior Hiking Trail in NE Minnesota, instead of going to our special NP.

Thanks for the quick response! I found their chili to be unique. I guess that's not available anymore.

Ranger snacks?
I haven't been on the Ranger in a few years. They used to have food/snacks, such as chili, ice cream and drinks, etc. How about now, do they provide anything recently?
