Re: New food storage regulations
I hope those that get to ISRO NP, in the early months of this season, will post the effects of the impact on our special park from what is happening in the DC. I'm also worried about the campgrounds in our National Forests and the Corp. of Engineer sites.

Re: New food storage regulations
G. My bear proof container is not light. I need a screw driver or a dime to get into it. I've never had an issue with any animal with my food, except a grey jay that got a nut I dropped. It got it within seconds. Hmm, re-thinking my possible summer trip.

Re: What impact will NPS firings have?
I figure I better not go to ISRO NP this year after all. I'm also worried about the campgrounds I depend upon, in our National Forests and those that are Corp. of Engineers. I'm old (born when FDR was our president). I'm not a happy camper, unless the NPs and other resources are open for our use ...

Re: Wolf troubles.
Back in 2001 a fox was called Steely Dan (us old ones enjoyed that 1) by a ranger. Not sure if this was the fox that stole everything it could. Shoes, clothing, food, equipment, etc. Also one year, there was a fox that was super skinny and didn't look too healthy. The staff was worried about it and ...

Re: Wolf troubles.
I plan to bring my bear proof container this year. I can't open it unless I have a dime or screw driver with me. I've had a number of foxes, over the years, sitting nearby, like they were wanting to be feed (like one of our pets).

Re: Ranger snacks?
Hmm! Maybe I should do the Superior Hiking Trail in NE Minnesota, instead of going to our special NP.

Re: Ranger snacks?
Thanks for the quick response! I found their chili to be unique. I guess that's not available anymore.

Ranger snacks?
I haven't been on the Ranger in a few years. They used to have food/snacks, such as chili, ice cream and drinks, etc. How about now, do they provide anything recently?

Food safety
I think I understand, that some of the new wolves are interested in our food. Do we need to bring something like my container that bears can't open? Do we need to hang our food in trees like I've done elsewhere? This is assuming I'm in a tent and not a shelter. Like many of you, over the years I ...

Re: Can't remember if I did this report.
I forgot to mention how the geese didn't let me into my camp site at Moskey. Remember this is just as much their home as it's ours. Also, I came across some folks from SW Ohio. They acted like it was normal to see a guy who taught college classes in their area. This trip was one where I never got ...

Can't remember if I did this report.
Sometime about 5 plus years ago, I did a trip on the Queen. After parking my car, I took my gear up to the boat. My plan was to go from RH to Moskey Basin and back to RH. As I was standing near the boat a taxi came up. A guy and his young daughter (10-12) got out with their gear. They wan't to know ...

Wolf Island
Thank goodness for my local library. I am now reading the book for the second time, written by L. David Mech with Greg Breining with a foreword by Rolf O. Peterson. It's "Wolf Island". I'm now considering another trip up to this nice place (ISRO NP). For those who haven't been there, maybe you ...

Re: McCargoe to Chippewa Harbor
I hiked from McCargoe to CH in one day back in 2010 or 2011. Back then the Lake Ritchie to CH section was not very difficult. That was due to the trail crew had cleaned up the blow down in that area. I had the luck to see a wolf on the wooden bridge before you get to Lake Ritchie. Seeing an old man ...

McCargoe to Chippewa Harbor
I'm curious how heavy the volume was on the trails and campgrounds from McCargoe to Chippewa Harbor recently (the last couple of years). I enjoyed that trip years ago, even though I seldom saw anyone. It was a year where there was over 100 trees down due to a blow down. I saw the most folks at CH ...
