We ate at both Harbor Haus & the Mariner North.
The food was good at both. Harbor Haus had a retirement home feel to it and my wife and I found the waitress uniforms to be a bit creepy. Nice views of the water, though.
Mariner North was more our cup of tea--it has more of a typical midwest tavern ...

Just got back from IR myself. Yeah, cell phones pretty much didn't work.
I did have my 5w 2m HT with me and was easily able to hit the 147.315 Keweenaw repeater from the Greenstone ridge. I didn't make a contact there.
From the tower at Mt. Ojibway I was also able to hit the Thunder Bay repeater ...

Being a radio geek, I checked the regs. Both DonNewcomb and johnhens are right.
There are no licensing requirements per se for someone to use a VHF maritime radio on a boat, but land-based stations need a license.
