Re: Ideas for a 4 night stay

I didn't check miles on this, but how about:

Night 1: Lane Cove
Night 2: West Chickenbone
Night 3: Moskey Basin
Night 4: Rock Harbor

A couple of the days will be long, but this will allow you time to hike around Rock Harbor and to Scoville Point before the boat arrives on your last day.

Or:
Night ...

Re: first Itinerary questions for 2010

Pardon what may be a silly question, but where is Rock Island in relation to Rock Harbor? If the route is Rock Harbor to Hidden Lake, Hidden Lake to Lane Cove, won't the mileage be considerably more than 8.2 miles?

East Chickenbone vs West Chickenbone...I agree with the others - West Chickenbone ...

Re: 9/18-25: 1st trip to Isle Royale, surely not the last!

Did you meet Mr. Fox after stopping by our camp at Three Mile (for water break)? I've had them in camp before where they sit with you like the family dog. I've heard the fox will borrow things and not bring them back. I've not experienced that, but don't doubt it.

I hope things calm down at work ...

Re: Trip Report - 9/18/09 Finished Hiking Isle Royale Trails

Thank you for the positive feedback on the trip report.

As much as I have tried, I was not able to convince my wife to join me at least once on Isle Royale. If she didn't have to take one of the boats or a sea-plane, I think she would readily go, but both are too much for her. She does however ...

Re: Long Hike on Isle Royale

I thank you very much Sir! Over the past couple of decades I've spent many days/weeks on the great island of Isle Royale. It was only recently that I found this site. Through trip reports, I can hopefully help someone else enjoy the splendor of the park. Thanks again -

Lookout Louise

Has anyone hiked to Lookout Louise lately? If so, what are the trail conditions?

Thanks -

Long Hike on Isle Royale

A friend and I returned last week from a 78+ mile hike on Isle Royale. We were hiking segments of trails scattered around the island that we hadn't hiked before. Due to rough weather, we enjoyed an unexpected extra day on the island. I've posted a trip report here:
