Re: Individual Season Pass
When paddling a kayak from Grand Portage to Huginnin, is it best to buy an individual season pass or a boater camping pass?

Re: Your input requested on my route & my boat...
I did the Malone to Siskwit to Wood to Whittlesley and Chippewa to Rock Harbor trip a few years back in a two person folding kayak. A Folbot Greenland 2. I did the trip with a buddy. Great trip. I had my friend to help me with the portages. The portages were much shorter than the trip you have ...

Re: Never Been in a Kayak Before
I agree with everything that has been said before. I should also add that it may depend on what type of kayak. In a two person rec boat and you may be fine with a pfd. In an inuit or british sea kayak, I would like you to learn to swim and practice wet exits. If it is a rec boat. You may want to ...

Re: Rock Harbor to Belle Isle
I do not understand how someone can make a blanket statement like: don’t paddle around Blake Point, it is too dangerous. For me personally, hiking the trail is much more dangerous. I have been to IR four times for kayaking and have rounded Blake Point three times. I never had any problem. Twice I ...

Re: Backpacking Hammocks
P.S. I did not set up the hammock in any shelters and I had no trouble finding trees.

Re: Backpacking Hammocks
In August 2006 I circumnavigated Isle Royale with 2 friends. We camped at Daisy Farm, Malone Bay, Attwood Beach, Huginnin Cove, Todd Harbor, Belle Isle and Merritt Lane. The only bedding I had was a Hennessy Hammock. I had no problem with trees or rangers. While camping, we met rangers at Daisy Farm ...

Re: trekking poles
I am sure you all remember the riddle of the sphinx: what walks on 4 legs in the morning, 2 legs at noon, and 3 legs in the evening. The answer, of course, is man. So we should use 2 trekking poles in the morning, none during the day and 1 trekking pole in after dark.

Pigeon Point
How is the landing and camping at Pigeon Point, MN? It seems when kayaking from Grand Portage to Isle Royale that the logical crossing points are from Pigeon Point to Huginnin Cove. I would probably want to put in at Grand Portage paddle to and camp at Pigeon Point and then leave early next morning ...

Re: Merritt Lane and Duncan Narrows
Generally I try to arrive at Merritt Lane early. I usually paddle to Duncan on the way out from Rock Harbor and stay at Merritt when coming back from Belle Isle. When staying at Merritt it is important to get up early and enjoy the sunrise.
