Re: CAMPFIRES IN DESIGNATED RINGS/STANDS ONLY.
Great work Tom. Your efforts will be remembered by all. I once almost got into a fight with a friend on IR in zone 37 over not being able to have a fire. He thinks that without a fire, camping is boring-I completely disagree with that. I discussed it with him before we went, and he was fine then ...

Re: Hello
Check out the "Trails and Campsites" section, the first Topic gives you an overview of the Backcountry travel rules and regulations. This will be key for you if you plan on spending any overnights in the backcountry. Travel is pretty much open everywhere, but overnight stays are limited to certain ...

Re: Tarp
I have used my silshelter(not the sil tarp) as an extra shelter and as my main shelter while on Isle Royale. Very light weight and durable. It has kept me dry through many rain storms on the Isle. I guess the only draw back might be that there is no floor and gear could get a bit muddy at times if ...

Re: First Time on Isle Royale
That is true what Keweenaw says about the larger items. My very first trip to the island in mid October many years ago, me and five friends, all first timers, came over from Grand Portage. When we arrived the Ranger greeted all 12 of us on the ferry and showed us where the permits were to fill out ...

Re: First Time on Isle Royale
I would be cautious not to leave anything unattended at campsites and shelters. The fox's are true thieves. I speak from experience. Make sure things are either in your tent/shelter or hung if you are going to leave things unattended. Enjoy your trip.

gaitors
and if you like to have a few, a cached six pack or bottle of wine is always nice at the end of a trip, just make sure you bring it back on the boat as garbage and dispose of it on the main land. Have a nice trip.

Re: Bushwhacking and GPS Waypoints
I have done quite a bit of travel near this area. Mostly in the Mount Saginaw area, but this is similar. You are on higher ground and there is a lot of exposed rock. There are still areas of water and marsh, but not to many. You should be able to identify these on a map. May should be alright for ...
