Re: Why do you go backpacking?
Its been so long since I've been on here. But Im suffering IR withdrawl and I need my fix, hopefully I'm going this summer. But besides that, I go backpacking because of the beauty of all the nature and the accomplishment of working to get to see that view. Sure you could drive and see a nice view ...

Isle Royale in the News
I was bored today so I googled Isle Royale in the news section of google. I found some interesting articles including some about the stock market in Isle Royale copper in 1900 to the acquisition of the island in 1935. It is very interesting. Heres the link.

Re: Remember the Fitz
I went to a memorial service in Fairport Ohio. I love the great lakes region and part of that is the lore of the lakes. Including the shipwrecks, lighthouses, and natural beauty. I don't plan on every leaving the region, no matter how much snow we get. Because no matter how far away I go, my home is ...

That guy is brave who is surfing on the great lakes this time of year. I don't mean braving the waves, I mean braving the cold.

Moskey Dock
When I was at Moskey in late June, the dock was crushed at the end, presumably by ice. Does anyone who went there at the end of the season know if they fixed this? I'm not a boater, just curious. Heres a pic:

Re: Camping in Hiawatha National Forest
Well the first night we stayed at the Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground which ended up costing $23 dollars for a basic no hookup campsite, which wasn't that bad considering it was cheaper than a hotel. Then we stayed at Fort Wilkins which was $21 plus an $8 for out of state permit which my dad was not ...

Re: How's the food on Ranger III?
When we went on our trip we went to Suomi Restaurant before we got on the boat. I had a pannukakku with raspberry dipping sauce and it was amazing. I've never had one even though I'm Finnish. As for on the boat I had some chili which was good. On the pasty note, We went to Kaleva Cafe in Hancock and ...

As an lover of all the Great Lakes, the lighthouses, & the ore boats. I wish you well on your photo trip. I live near the Fairport Harbor lighthouses and frequent Conneaut Ohio which also has a lighthouse and a lot ore boats so I enjoy that stuff. Good luck!
