Re: Backpacking chairs?

The original post in this thread is potentially a sleeper spam post; looks legitimate but poster may come back later and enter a link in the text or signature. After searching the web for key words in the original post, I located a post in another backpacker forum (WhiteBlaze) that was the same word...

Re: Fall Storm Sept 2019

The Ranger III did not make the outbound trip to Isle Royale last Tuesday Sept. 3. They headed down the portage canal and got out just past the breakwater and ran into 14' and greater waves. Captain decided to turn around and return to Houghton. The Ranger III departed without incident the following...

Re: Leaving from Copper Harbor but want to hike Windigo to RH

Seaplane or Voyageur II ferry are your only two options to get from Rock Harbor to Windigo, if you are dead set on traveling from Copper Harbor. Check out this thread for more logistic options to get from one end of the island to the other. Link ---> https://isleroyaleforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=...

Nice details in your trip report. Lengthiness is well respected here on the Isle Royale Forums. Glad your party did not feed the fish.

...Did you happen to see anyone that was backcountry camping? I think we'll have to backcountry camp because we have an afternoon flight into Windigo. If there was anyone off-trail backcountry camping along that stretch, they probably wouldn't have been seen. The rules state that one must camp at l...

Re: Carrying Water

I use a Platypus Water Tank so I can bring water back to my campsite and use/filter as needed. I apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to the zipper when it becomes stiff and hard to zip.

The concession operation at Rock Harbor and Windigo do offer a service to store gear for a fee. The box of gear cannot contain stove fuel or food.

Re: TR: 6/2 - 6/7 2019 [Ishpeming Trail > Greenstone Trail > Windigo]

Did the NPS people at Windigo give anything away about whether there were plans to work on the deadfall or restore the beaver-ravaged boardwalk? In September of 2017 that same bridge/boardwalk (at the west end of Lake Siskiwit) was not passable. One side of it was floating as it was not attached to...
