Re: wilderness stewardship plan overview

2 of the plans would eliminate the section of the Indian portage trail between the lake Richie trail and the lake Richie portage, meaning Chippewa harbor would become another water access site only  I sure hope they don't eliminate that short section of the Indian Portage Trail. Re: 5 day trip, looking for recommendations

With such a short visit, there is not much room to vary your itinerary away from a direct end-to-end hike. If your legs feel strong on the first day, you could make it to Lake Desor South. Re: ISO: Malone Bay trail update

I did the Ishpeming Trail in Sept. 2023. The beaver dam appears to be abandoned. It is not holding back any water due due to deterioration and breaches. The path through the washout area was very easy to navigate.

2. What is the long berm that the Feldtmann trail follows? For about a mile near Feldtmann Lake campground, before climbing the ridge, the trail follows a long, straight berm that rises 4 or 5 feet above the surrounding swamp. This ends within half a mile of the campground. It's remarkably uniform ...

Re: Tip-to-Tip Trip

Two notable lakes contain no game fish, Lake Desor and Hatchet Lake. Shoreline fishing is challenging on the remaining lakes due to the thick brush and obstacles like swamps and rock ledges, but it is possible. I've never caught any fish from the Lake Superior shoreline. Others have at times been ...
