Re: Backcountry Hiking...Thoughts and Advice Please.
Hey Ingo and Srparr :D Ingo: Thanks for the ideas. I didn't think the seaplane could drop people off at the north tobin harbor dock, but I'm glad you were able to confirm matters. I heard of the MV Sandy boat tours and the water taxi, but I did not know that they would be viable options that I could ...

Re: 2012 Trip Log- Add your intinerary and trip info here!
Are we going to do that application again this year where you can add your intinerary to the digital calader that was posted at the top of what I thought was the Trip Report section that I am in now? I know this allowed us to see if we would be on the island at the same time other forum members were ...

I don't know from any experience of my own, but I believe I have read a couple of different posts from reputable around here to confirm that you cannot. Again, this is just what I have read and not from my own personal bank of knowledge.

And in case you misswd it scanning through the many items or you didn't see John Hen's post, the Ranger III is offering limited October trips if you are crazy like me and want to go this late in the year to freeze your tuzies off.

Re: Ranger III Falls trips
Just scheduled an October trip. I hope my girlfriend and I do not turn into popsicles while on the island during this time of year. We also hope not to be thrashed to death by a bull moose staking out his territory for females. Has anyone else made a plan for an October trip yet? I am pretty certain ...

Re: Brockway Mtn for sale - donate to keep it public
Complete Sidebar: I had no reception on my phone while at Cooper Harbor and everyone told me to drive to the top of this mountain to get reception. I gave it a try, but no luck. Everyone else swears by it, but it didn't do the trick for my AT&T phone carrier :( Anyways back to the main topic, keep ...

Re: cell phones
I am not sure if it was already stated, but if you go up to the ridge on Chippewa Harbor behind the school house, I know there was a gentleman (I think his name was Rob) that we meet while he was staying on the site for two weeks at the begining of May because there was no stay limits this time of ...

Re: Restaurant in Copper Harbor area??
The Keweenaw Mountain Lodge Restaurant (where the golf course is attached) located just 3 or so miles from Copper Harbor was pretty tasty. It seemed like everyone elses choice when we got back from the island during the Queens first week of operation. I don't recall what the story was, but I do not ...

Re: Cheap motels in Houghton?
I can definitely speak on behalf of Super 8. I love the fact that it is close to the Ranger III. I love the fact that it is off a channel of Lake Superior. I love the fact that it has a short bike trail on it to explore on the day before you leave to Isle Royale if you have time. I love the waffles ...

Re: 1st timer how do i get there
Another option that no one has mentioned is to come into Rock Harbor from Houghton or Copper Harbor. That cuts four hours off your drive time from Chicago versus Grand Portage. My thoughts exactly. Make your first trip to the island a simple one. If you drive to Houghton and take the Ranger III or ...

Re: 1st timer how do i get there
One of the things I found (IMHO) about I.R. is that there are many options but none of them is perfect. That is so true. Just when you think aparticular option is perfect, you realize there is a slight down fall. I can ellaborate if anyone cares to hear specifics, but simply put, Don you are so ...

Backcountry Hiking...Thoughts and Advice Please.
You guys getting excited? Less than two months before regular ferry service kicks into gear for the 2012 season. I can't wait! I plan to complete the whole island with regards to all of the foot trails and sites that do not require a kayak or canoe this year during my fourth (July) and fifth trips ...

Sunrise and Sunset in Late September
Does anyone have a record or know where I can find one regarding sunrise and sunset times at Isle Royale? Also I know I should know this by now, but it's slipping my mind at the moment, the island is on Eastern Time correct? Thanks.

July 13th, 2012 Chicago Trip
The girlfriend and I plan on going to Isle Royale Via the Sea Hunter on Saturday July 14th, thus we would want to leave on July 13th from Chicago and stay at a hotel the night before. We have a wedding to go to on July 21st in Duluth, MN. Long story short is if there is anyone in the Chicagoland ...

Re: BRING CASH! New User Fee Collection Procedure
This is true. Last year my girlfriend and I wanted to get the annual pass while taking the Queen. They did not offer it on the boat. The crew member looked at me and told me my total would be $4 per day. And I said, I realize this, but there is an annual pass that I can buy which would save me money ...
