Re: Two Campers Found Dead on IR

I wonder if the redblackrider group, that left South Desor at 11pm to hike the 11 miles to Windigo, came across the 2 rangers in the dark that hiked 11 miles from "somewhere" to the probable crime scene, arriving before dawn.

The redblackrider group left Friday night; the rangers left Sunday ...

Good point. That's 11 miles as well.

Although I ask... Would there be a pair of Rangers already at Malone?

Re: Two Campers Found Dead on IR

The OP on reddit said this morning that they've been contacted by the FBI, implying they are connected.

I agree, makes sense. What do they say? There are no coincidences.

A bit of a separate issue, but this article mentions that "a spokesperson said the deaths are not connected to an apparent arrest that was captured on video last week by U.P. Adventure Company." I hadn't heard anything about that.

I agree treeplanter. Here is the time-lapse of day's captures ending with a nice Northern Lights. The time-lapse of the evaporation/sublimation is pretty cool.

There were many interesting things that presented yesterday.

Thanks for prompting me to have a closer look at what happened.

I need to go back through my archives and scan them with an eye towards the sky instead of the ground.

Based on the 4 or 5 pixels of bright white, I'm going with bald eagle too.

Then again it also resembles some of the photos I've seen from UFO sightings

Or is it the chem trail we're looking at?

What month? Surface temperatures increase throughout Spring and early Summer, peaking in early August. Washington Harbor is going to warm up more than open water.

I'm a swimmer too and a pretty good swimmer, but I would not personally tackle this challenge. Based on that, without ...

Re: First timer itinerary feedback

I just noticed on page 8 of last year’s Greenstone (https://www.nps.gov/isro/upload/Web_2024-Greenstone_Final.pdf) the official guidance on choosing campsites. It is as related above but includes a final option before camping outside the campground: Ask to pitch a tent outside a shelter.

(I did ...

Re: First timer itinerary feedback

Your itinerary is more ambitious than average. After a couple of days you should have a decent handle on things except the weather of course. (especially after climbing out of Lane Cove.) You can then consider making adjustments to shorten mileage or not. This is much more easily accomplished on the ...

Not sure what you mean by Middle Island Camera? We have a camera looking down at Middle Islands Passage from Ojibway Lookout... Not thrilled with the color balance on it lately so it will get some attention in a ...

Re: Helicopter & activity on Mott Dock + Winter Study flights

Appreciate everyone commenting, discussing and, most importantly, viewing the cameras. Running cameras 24/7 in a very remote and isolated location like Isle Royale takes some time, effort and money. Public use and engagement really helps the park understand the value placed on them by the public ...

Re: Helicopter & activity on Mott Dock + Winter Study flights

Helicopter was moving food storage boxes out to campgrounds. The boxes were staged at several places around park this Fall and then slung to the nearby campgrounds by helicopter. Boxes are heavy, large and really difficult to move any distance by hand.. Helicopter got them close.. crews will carry ...

It is pretty obvious though, I wonder how the historian missed it.
These photos date back to just the 1950's.
