Re: Ryan Island Views

The Rock Harbor Lodge offers a reservation based water taxi that services Malone Bay but it is pricy. You can also arrange for the Voyageur II to drop you off at (and pick you up from) Malone Bay after it (and you) spend the night at Rock Harbor. Additionally, you will need to spend a minimum of 2 n...

Re: Don’t leave your shoes out -video

I'm still not convinced on the Fox's motivations. At first I I thought they were drawn to the salt content due to sweating. Then after a stash of pots and pans was found I went towards the smelly remnants of food. Or maybe just because it's a shiny object as other "trinkets" were discovere...

Re: McCargoe to Chippewa Portage Trip

I once brought a huge floating Rapala "like" floating/trolling lure that was almost 12 inches long. At Ritchie I caught a small northern with it that was shorter than the lure. That's reflective of just how crazy active the fishing can be there, and also the natural aggressiveness of North...

Re: Does 47 Year Ago Qualify as History?

My first visit was 1968. I have some slides (remember those?) someplace. Need to find them. These were "lost" slides. I recently purchased an Epson V600 flat table scanner with an upper slide illumination light for slides and film. it can even run a 2nd pass scan using infrared light that...

Re: Does 47 Year Ago Qualify as History?

I remember those stops from my first summer in '79. My most memorable fish camp stop was when fishing was apparently exceptionally good. All the extra crates of fish needed some space. Things got a bit more crowded but nothing terrible. But it was hard for some people to send their breakfast off wi...

Re: Does 47 Year Ago Qualify as History?

I remember those stops from my first summer in '79. How do you remember Daisy Farm from the dock? Compare your memory to my photo (from the OP Link) (from the OP Link) . The photo compressed the perception of depth of field but I remember an actual large very empty field of tall grass and many time...

Does 47 Years Ago Qualify as History?

At least some of these photos qualify I think as those things shown no longer exist or in place: These photos were taken during my 5 trips in 1975, 1976 and 1978. Some things look quite different than today while others will never change over 1000s of lifetimes. Back then, the Voyageur II made stops...

Re: McCargoe to Chippewa Portage Trip

We may spend a night on Ryan Island or the island just to the south of there. This... I believe spending the night on Ryan Island (or any island) would be off limits. The islands at Isle Royale National Park where camping is allowed include: Beaver Island Belle Isle Birch Island Caribou Island Grac...

Re: McCargoe to Chippewa Portage Trip

Very nice fishing report. Can you add some information regarding lures used, both successful and otherwise?

Unless something has very recently changed in the regulations I believe spending the night on Ryan Island (or any island) would be off limits.

Re: Feedback requested on webcam videos

Excellent! These are very nice. Thank you for taking the time. I agree with dcclark. I think Introduction and trailer times could be shortened. Three seconds is just a bit too long. The length of time allowed should depend upon what you are asking the viewer to read. It should be as short as possibl...

Re: Greenstone 2022

I found this, more or less, in this article from MSR , but they also seem to be a bit confused. They even link to the MiniWorks EX using *both* the term "physical purifier" and "microfilter". I think that calling the MiniWorks a "physical purifier" is a mistake, since ...

I fear I might sound like one of those guys on Amazon reviews that post "I don't know. I bought something different", but I've never paddled that area. You sound like you have good experience and a cautious attitude. I never knew how large a wake the Lakers can produce and how far they tra...
