Looks like the bugs are out

Well, at least one, even if it's only a house fly or maybe a horse fly.

I keep watching, waiting for a moose to walk by. It happened once while I sat up on the Ojibway tower.

This version of the link works, at least for today. (EDIT NOTE: This repaired link is good for long term as it is updated each day)

Re: CPAP Machine

Any experience with a CPAP on IR? Oh!, I had a terrible experience. :( Back in June 2000, 4 of us made my first power boat trip with a good friend's boat. We mostly base camped out of Daisy Farm. My friend had a portable CPAP but all I remember about the unit is the battery died or broke the very fi...

And today it has matured a bit. Now I find myself looking for the screaming man on the dock ala Edvard Munch.

Here are a couple of the Isle Royale Queen II before it was lengthened by 20 feet to become the Queen III.

Re: Isle Royale Queen III

That 1941 brochure is a great find. I am now imagining what it must have been like to take the S.S. Alabama cruise from Chicago or the S.S. America from Buffalo to Isle Royale. The brochure did not have any pictures of the other ferries mentioned so here is a couple of the original Isle Royale Queen...

Re: Isle Royale Queen III

I see the old Queen is making the rounds. Not too long ago, maybe in 2013, she was giving tours or serving dinner in Marquette Harbor. Before the Queen III there was the first Barf Barge, The Queen II. Number Two was the same hull before it was lengthened about 20 feet. At 20 feet shorter it really ...

Re: Ice Bridge Formed?

When some of the wolves were going to be deposited just before winter there was some talk of penning them up for a while (to prevent an ice bridge escape) in hopes of acclimating them to their new home. Hopefully they've gotten used to and happy with their new home for a long enough period that the ...

Re: Canoe route suggestions/general questions

Another option to consider is canoeing the inland lakes of IR. On a typical day, we have seen more moose (and other wildlife) than people, and the fishing is great. The BWCA is absolutely packed with people by comparison. Here's a suggested itinerary for an easy 4-5 day trip: Day 1: Voyageur II fro...

Re: Canoe route suggestions/general questions

Hello and welcome, Your post implies one canoe for the 4 of you. Even if it was a smaller canoe with 2 people, that portage is not one I would aim to include for just a 4 day trip. With a bit more information about yourselves, others would probably have more firm advice on the portage. If you could ...

Re: Sea kayak Trip to IR this Summer

Based on your stated experience I think the usual discussions of gear can be safely bypassed. Weather broadcast reception can be unreliable in several locations. Canadian broadcasts can be picked up on the north side. Circumnavigation trips are periodically made and documented here. There have been ...

Re: When a wolf says no to IR

If we could only travel like a wolf. I've wondered how much the very cold affects wolves. I once heard John Vucetich make the statement that a healthy moose doesn't really "feel" the cold until about -20 Deg F

Ground Hog Day

It's here and it was the first sunny day in a long time although I think we already knew the answer to the future length of The Island's Winter season. The real question is are there any ground hogs on The Island? I don't think so. Sort of like the lonely tree falling in the forest question I guess....
