Re: What are you going to use your REI dividend on? 2011 edi
Used my dividend, 20% off member coupon, and took advantage of their annual sale to buy a brand new stove (Whisperlite), some quick dry pants, and a pack cover for my osprey. Pack cover was much needed since last year on the Island I used a large garbage bag when it rained. Haha, that only worked so ...

This is what I did. Good cheap place to spend the night and get your packs ready for the ferry.

Re: History of trails/campgrounds
I have no idea about the history of the trails. However I would be interested to hear/see an exhibit of this information too. You should email the Isle Royale NPS about this because they really want to hear this kind of stuff from us. They want to know what we would like to see/ what we value.

Re: Article on IR Wolf Population in danger
This is the exact email the NPS sent me about Isle Royale:
"As you may know our policy of letting nature take its course has been
long-standing. The policy was reviewed in the mid 90's when the wolf
population was rapidly declining and reached an all-time low. During this
time a meeting was held by ...

Re: Article on IR Wolf Population in danger
I have emailed Isle Royale about the wolf decline and they are pretty firmly put about letting nature take its course.
However I support putting some wolves from the mainland (preferably Canada). It will take some diligent research to determine the ecosystem impact of newly stocked wolves. The ...

Re: What national parks haven't you visited, but would like
It turns out the day I was planning on going to Shenandoah they had just a little bit of snow (nothing by Michigan's standards), so they closed off the park for a couple days. It was a bummer but we still explored the Blue Ridge Parkway and did some day hikes.
I'll visit Shenandoah soon enough!

Re: What national parks haven't you visited, but would like
My top destinations are something like this
1. Glacier Nat'l Park
2. Olympic
3. North Cascades
4. Acadia
5. Redwood
I'll be visiting Shenandoah next week, even though it's only for a day I can't wait!

Re: 2011 Trip Log - Add your planned itinerary here!
This is my first trip on IR, so I need feeback on water filters. We normally use a FIRST NEED WATER Filtration system, but have recently switched to a MSR Microworks filter? Any reviews on it?
I bought an MSR Microworks filter last year and used it on the Island. It worked great, just make sure ...

Re: Cultural Resources Management Plan
My friend and I (who have both been to IR) went to the East Lansing meeting a couple weeks ago.
There was a big snowstorm just before then, which may have affected the turnout, so there was barely anybody there. However we made a point to go and get involved, and it was very nice. There were about ...

Re: Rock Harbor to Lane Cove
DP89 - I hiked from Three Mile to Lane Cove on Friday, 8/20. Did my friend and I borrow a tarp from you? Her tent was filling up with water but I had one of best naps ever that day in my tent! :)
Nobody borrowed anything from us when we were there. But yeah we were there friday night 8/20 too ...

Re: Rock Harbor to Lane Cove
Hiked this a week ago in the rain...sandystAR we must have been pretty close together if not at the same time!
The way there isn't too bad, we came from Rock Harbor. Lane Cove is a beautiful, tent only site. Hiking out of there is much more difficult, because of the many uphill switchbacks on the ...

First Time to Isle Royale- Report
Me and a couple buddies got the chance to hit the Island for our first trip. Came over from Houghton on the Ranger III. We had an amazing time, and learned much to further prepare ourselves for the inevitable next trip.
