Re: 1st solo trip 5-day itinerary choices
W Chickenbone camp over E Chickenbone, always. The mile extra to Three Mile on day 4 is negligible. You will have expended as much energy getting water at E Chicken, as you would doing an extra(relatively easy) mile in the AM from W Chicken. If I felt good, coming off Mt Franklin to Three Mi, I woul...

Re: Am or FM radio stations for weather?
On my first trip to Isle Royale September 2015 I brought... Portable Weather Radio. I got zero reception at the 3 Mile and Daisey Farm campsites. Normally you can hear weather reports constantly but on the island I didn't hear a squeek... If one takes the trail between Three Mile and Mt Franklin, j...

I believe you could pitch 6 tents/hammocks if needed.

2-Lane cove
3-Daisy farm or Three mi
4- Rock Harbor
YMMV.

HikingKat,
Gators are a good option, I have always carried down gear/bags to the Isle.
Consider this package for your map needs+. Help those that help the park.

Re: 1st Trip to IR
Day light is diminishing, get early starts each day.
1. minimal insects, expected.
2. it has snowed every month of the year on the Isle; possibly 32 at night, 70 during day?
3. minimal competition for camp sites, privacy most likely a non-issue.
YMMV

Re: Moskey to 3 mile
... on day 4 how manageable is the hike from Daisy to RH in time for the 2:30 ferry? I'm not sure how early we need to be there for it. Is it an easy 7 miles? My husband says we should just get up early and it'll be fine. Also I've read that Tobin trail would make it go quicker. Thoughts? If you le...

Re: Jetboil Fuel Can at Windigo
I doubt any one will ever use that canister :?: (I would think the GAZ canisters would more likely be used by boaters); unfortunate, the LNT principles abandoned in two instances, out the door after less than ten miles from the orientation lecture. :( The LNT principle is designed to protect the res...

I'll take National Park locations for $1000.

Re: Trail Intel
Rainbow cove is a good spot for gathering raspberries(mid-Aug to early Sept), and to catch a sunset.
Feldtmann lake is usually good for pike.

Re: Windigo Itinerary-Sept. Solo 5 night/6 day
I would think fairly tough to do in your limited time.
Fly to Windigo, take Voyageur to McCargo, hike to L Todd, Huginnin loop on way in to Wash. Creek, Feldtmann loop either way if you have time?
Perhaps the two loops, save the Minong for a future trip.

Re: Washington Creek Rain Event Levels
Last time I looked, it has dropped off from 3.80 ft. to 3.79 ft.
I doubt that the area where the shelters are would have much noticeable difference; I would believe the measurement station is back where the creek/trail cross, just after coming off the Minong/Huginnin
Cove trails junction.
