Isle Royale Rocks Again!
Reminded me of a Paul Simon song: Still crazy after all these years.

Re: Coaster Brook Trout Fishing
Their campsite appeared to be Duncan Narrows. Bobcat1, I haven't had the pleasure of that camp...yet. I believe they were eating fish, my thoughts; they most likely were pike, or other non-salmonid. :?: It sure appeared to be an enjoyable way to get stranded on a fishing trip. Hoping the wi...

Re: Waterproof hiking shoes...
Hooky, I've looked at the H2O sandals plenty of times, never purchased, however. :?: I don't recall the name of the Keen boot I have at present; it's like an urban hiker, all leather high top with non-aggressive lug sole. Love it for the wider foot/toe feature. Keeps my feet happy. 8) Isle Royale Ro...

Re: Coaster Brook Trout Fishing
Base654, Thanks for the clarification. 8) In that episode of "Michigan Out of Doors", they gave me, and possibly others, the impression that you could now keep one. :?: They didn't clarify, "keep one outside of Isle Royale National Park waters". If they did, I missed it. :!: They...

Re: Coaster Brook Trout Fishing
I watched it last Thursday on my local PBS. Great to hear the sub-species' recovery; you are now able to keep one a day, in ones creel!
They used to be, I believe, catch and release only. Time to go catch 'em!

Re: Waterproof hiking shoes...
In my opinion I agree with some of the above. I was a firm believer in Asolo boots, they are Italian made and fit my feet! After a few wet slogging hikes they became wet bricks tied to my ankles. Now I wear Merrel Moab ventilators with super feet greenies insoles and DT socks, lightweight gators if...

Re: Detailed IR maps
torpified, Funny thing; that smaller pack, a "Marmot fanny pack", was the same pack Jim DuFresne was carrying for his day hike. I had just resupplied with a, premailed, 10 day(20#), food drop at Windigo. I met Jim at the Windigo visitors center I spent 21 days, enjoying :D , that occasion ...

Re: Detailed IR maps
I met Jim DuFresne in 2009; doesn't seem like ten years this September. He, and his daughter were just getting that maps site started. He was solo on the Isle, to update his trail guide book. I made the Grace Creek Overlook photo in the 4th edition. As he snapped several photos of me, as we hiked th...

Catching that first boat.
I've pondered, is there enough snow for skiing sections; maybe to Lane Cove or towards Tobin Harbor?
The ultimate glade run.
How much would the charge be for transport of ski equipment; could be regarded as any other piece of gear/equipment

Re: TR: 7/29 – 8/7, 2018 [RH-DF-MB-CH-MCC-TH-NLD-WC]
:D ... We immediately made a mistake and followed a false path to the right. We should’ve continued straight, I believe. We were able to cross the damn, despite knee deep water and shoe sucking mud. We reached the woods edge and knew we were no longer on trail...  Been there, done tha...

6 hrs to S Desor, 8 hrs to W Chickenbone from S Desor. YMMV.Breezypointer wrote: ↑Mon Aug 13, 2018 9:10 pm I realize this is a very broad approximation but how many hours does it take to get from Windigo to S Desor, and from S Desor to W Chickenbone?

Re: Todd Harbor questions
I know this has been asked before, but I can’t find it. ... And a bonus question dealing with the Feldtmann Lake trail. I remember there was a beautiful overlook of Washington Harbor. How far is this from where the trail stops following the Harbor and heads up hill? Here is a previous post about Gr...

Re: Anyone have a recent berry update?
I ate ripe wild raspberries this week in Houghton/Higgins Lakes area of southern MI. I realize that is far... south of IR, but, with the micro-climates of the Isle, I would be searching for patches, now, on the southern facing ridges. My guess is, it's "harvest" time from now until frost. ...
