Re: Picnic Tables in Group Sites?
Hi Ed, Excellent advice. I have a great piece of closed cell foam I bought from Dutch Ware Gear. It’s super light and folds into 1/4s. I love it as it’s weight is minuscule and as it’s designed to fold in half and then half again so it doesn’t take up space like a chunk cut off of an old pad. It’ll b ...

Picnic Tables in Group Sites?
Hi all, This will be my 10th trip to the Island this year, but the 1st time I've been in the Group sites. I've never gone with more than a few people, however, this year, I'll be bringing another adult and 6 youth with me. As such we'll be staying in the group camp sites (obviously). I've already ...

Re: Fishable Lakes Chart
Pumpkinseed is basically a blue gill. Typically they are more green and have a red/black spot on their gill cover instead of a blue/black one like blue gills. You've almost certainly caught one before and not realized it if you fished blue gills before.

Re: Tent for 3, or individual?
as if you need another vote for a tarp, one really great use I found was a wind block in the shelters... While I LOVE the shelters in IR, they tend to sleep a good bit cooler because of how open they are and the tent typically locks in a little body warmth. While some people get around this by ...

Has anyone ever got a kayak or canoe into Sargent Lake?
While I haven’t rewatched in a while, im 99% sure that George Desort did for 50 lakes one Island documentary... not saying it would be easy but almost anything CAN be done with enough motivation.

Anyone have a recent berry update?
Hey all, Travel day tomorrow and boat over on Saturday. I'm bringing my boys (11 year old twins) on their 2nd trip to the Isle, one LOVES berries. Was hoping to have some ripe Thimbleberries. Anyone been on the island recently that knows how their coming. Should be pretty close by now from memory ...

Re: Itinerary Feedback - 7/6-7/15 - [First time on IR]
Hello. Your route is very doable, no worries. The fact you've included a zero day for weather or rest is very good! A couple of suggestions... Day 1 consider a water taxi from Rock to hidden lake. You're already doing the Greenstone ridge trail might as well do the whole thing. If hiking from Rock ...

Nice report. Thanks for the read. I laughed good (because I can imagine the shock) when you realized the drawers/socks/boots were frozen solid.

Re: Campground in Grand Portage
Do you have passports? The actual closest reservable campground other than the Grand Portage one, is actually the Ontario Provincial Park campground just over the border along the north shore of the Pigeon River. But you do have to cross into and out of Canada to use this campground. I usually ...

My absolute favorite sunrise Ingo. Nothing beats a Three Mile sunrise from the boulders by campsite/Shelter 11.

Wow.... I knew they did maintenance stuff on Mott Island, but repainting the dock bright white is a nice touch. I'm sure it makes seeing it on the Ranger III easier.... ; )

Re: 2 half days, 1 night guide?
If I were you I'd think hard about getting settled day 1 and hiking the Stoll trail to Scoville point. It's a very easy hike and no pressure. I believe the hotel includes a 1/2 day canoe rental. Day 2. Get up and paddle over to lookout Louise. Paddle Tobin Harbor and head back on the boat. It won't ...

Re: Newbie - 3 nights on IR - What would you do?
Day 1: Early flight into Rock Harbor. Hike Tobin Harbor trail to Mt Frankly n trail up to the Greenstone. Stop by Mt Franklin for a break. Hike to Ojibway Fire Tower and down to Daisy Farm. Can fish at Daisy in the evening if you like or just relax. Day 2: get up early, hike up to Greenstone (day ...
