Re: The Top 3 Best and Worst Campgrounds (Trail Accessible O
I have visited--and/or stayed overnight at---every Isle Royale campground that one can reach without using a canoe/kayak (or without using cross country bushwacking)----except Lane Cove--and I will be staying there next week. Wow! Picking the best/worst worst sites is so difficult. Most sites have ...

Re: Amount of water for a trip
I carry two "one liter" Gatorade bottles with me while I hike. (They are cheaper than Nalgenes and are disposable after each trip to help reduce any possible bacteria buildup). I also carry a 4 liter MSR Dromedary "bladder"--it is usually empty (or close to empty) when I actually hike. When I arrive ...

Re: Places to stay in Grand Portage
Last year, I stayed at Rydens. As stated by a previous poster, the place is inexpensive (I think I spent around $40-$45 for one night). Nothing fancy. Thin walls. There is plenty of room to spread out and pack your stuff. A mom and Pop "truck stop-like" diner is located on the premises. I think ...

Re: Trip Itinerary & question
I have hiked the majority of the trails and seen most of the campsites on the island. Here are my thoughts regarding where to stay two nights: Chippewa Harbor: One of the few sites that I have never visited or stayed at. Lake Richie: A bit isolated and "boring" when compared to the other sites you ...
