Re: Coffee On The Isle

What is the " rule " for dumping coffee grounds?
I attempt to be a total pack in pack out hiker but would like to know what others do with the used coffee grounds. Thanks

Consecutive nights

Does anyone know for certain the number of consecutive nights a person can stay at a Washington Harbor shelter? I believe it is 2 but am not sure.
Thanks!

Advice sought on mid-May hike

Thought I'd try something new this year. 5 days on the Isle in mid-May. The earliest I have hiked on my 8 trips to IR is July 1st and I really enjoy mid-Sept conditions. Anything I should be aware of other than the colder temps? Arriving Windigo on the 16th and assume not much will be open there; ar...

Re: Instant mashed potatoes

I've got a Nesco also - not real fast but it works well for being a thrift store bargain 15+ years ago. All the potato talk has me wanting to try my own. Fruit, fruit leathers, veggies, jerky and shrimp are some of my mainstays.

Re: Meat n' Cheese

I use Schweigert brand summer sausage ( sold at supermarkets in Mpls./ St. Paul and around the midwest) since they have a refrigerate "after" opening product. This usually lasts 2 days after I open it, even in the heat. Johnsonville also has a refrigerate after opening product. I use it in...

Moskey was still damaged as of 9.01.11. Was wondering if it was ice or boat damage.

Thanks for posting ,Tom. I came on to put up the link only to see it was already here! I am very glad to see enforcement of the laws on I.R. and hope the park service will push this to the limit.

Thanks for the report! I'll be hiking the same area the last week of August and hoping many of the wildflowers will still be in bloom for photo opportunities.

Re: The Wenonah still exists!

My fondest memory is the return trip back to Grand Portage when my 12 year old daughter, on her first backpacking trip ever, was asked if she would like to "blow the horn" as we entered the harbor.
That was 10 years ago and she still has the certificate signed by our captain!
