Sylvania Wilderness Area - UP...suggestions?
Hello all, Sadly we will not heading to IR this summer but are looking forward to trying out the Sylvania Wilderness area. Anyone been there and have any insight regarding fishing, must see things, bugs? We are headed there with 4 adults and 3 kids (9, 8, 6 y/o). Planning to stay for 6 nights with 2 ...

Re: 3mile and Moskey docks
Moskey was still damaged when we there a week ago but I can't speak to the other.

Re: Portage conditions McCargoe to Chippewa, approp footgear
I left the boots hanging on my pack and used my vibram's for portages and in the boat. If you can get past the looks and not stub your toe on a rock they are the ticket. You can't sprain your ankle in them and they grip the rocks better than boots :) I would definitely condition your feet to them ...

Re: ?????BLUE-GREEN ALGAE??????
There is a small black buoy just out from the canoe campground at Ritchie. I asked the Rangers and they said that they are monitoring the water temps at various depths to try and determine/predict the blooms. We filtered water from the middle of the lake and had a nice pike dinner and are not having ...

Re: What to use when fishing inland lakes, and where to go
It was sunny most of the trip. We actually started to do a lot better fishing after it rained the third day. We had a lot of fish following to the boat with Rapala's and spoons in greens and blues but they seemed to strike the orange/silver combo much better. Seems like I remember reading somewhere ...

Re: Trip Report 7/31-8/5
Yup, there were 2 beavers on Wood Lake when we were there but that was about the best we could for pics even with the zoom lens. We had pre-packed the canoe at home and I hadn't intended the pack as a back rest but boy was it nice. When fishing the gear was usually stowed at camp so I relied on the ...

Re: Trip Report 7/31-8/5
We didn't see any fox either but lots of fox poo (err scat) on the portage trails. We had camp bunnies at Wood Lake every night. Our son was all smiles and proud as could be to have provided dinner. As far as the Ritchie-Moskey portage he said that seemed the shortest because he was telling my wife ...

Re: What to use when fishing inland lakes, and where to go
Using an orange/silver Cleo (1/2 oz) and a Johnson Silver Minnow (Silver) with an orange grub tail. Wood lake was pretty slow at first then we switched to that color and started catching fish. Not sure if it mattered or not but we were catching fish so we didn't change back to test the theory, if it ...

Re: What to use when fishing inland lakes, and where to go
We spoke with a couple of guys that had a canoe on Lake LaSage (just North of Ritchie) and they said that was hands down the most productive lake they had been on for pike. I'm not sure how easy it is to fish from shore though as I haven't been there. There is a weed bed at Moskey Basin just north ...

Trip Report 7/31-8/5
First thanks to everyone that answered our questions in planning our first trip to IR. Second I hope you're not offended by my misspellings of the lakes (or other things). My wife, son (7 y/o), and I had a blast! July 31 - Sunny. Arrived in RH and took the water taxi to Chippewa Harbor arriving at ...

Re: Fish Graph/Finder
Thanks for the info. I was thinking that the graph might be a little bit overkill but it was loaned to me by someone who had been there and said it would help. I fish quite a bit so I what to look for in terms of a "good" fishing spot. Our canoe has a 1,000# capacity with 6" of freeboard and I ...

Fish Graph/Finder
Looking for a few opinions here. My wife, son (7 y/o), and I are headed to IR for the first time July 31-Aug 5. As we pack and unpack our gear into backpacks and our canoe I'm trying to cut some weight/gear because we're heavy and our canoe is full. My wife and I are hauling most of the stuff for ...

Re: Hook restrictions on a fishing lure?
Thanks Inca...that was my plan. Of course our son is 7 so I'll probably have to clamp down all the barbs because he'll have to use every lure

Re: Hook restrictions on a fishing lure?
Another question...do all lures I have on me have to be barbless or just the ones I'm using? I ask because I am bringing lures for wife, son, and I and I would rather not clamp down the barbs on all of the lures if the first one we use is catching fish. So basically can I get into trouble if I am in ...
