Thanks for a great TR. That's part of the island I haven't been on yet. I need to get it planned while I'm still able to do it.
The Hoosier Hiking folks are great resource for those of us in IN. I've never met them, but glad to hear they're the type of folks I expected them to be.

Re: Chickenbone algae bloom?
Current alerts don't include anything about algae blooms at specific locations or in general. With the current weather trends, it may rear it's head yet this month.

Re: Water Filtering
An Alaskan bud told me he uses coffee filters as a water pre-filter. Quite light for sure. Back when I pumped, I would use a coffee filter for the inlet. Worked great. Now I use a Sawyer. Using a gravity setup, I just let it sit a little longer in the dirty bag to settle out. If I'm not using a gra...

Re: Feldtmann loop or not
Late to the conversation, but I did a modified loop that I really thought was great. Windigo > Feldtmann (side trip to sunset at Rainbow cove) > Siskiwit > S. Desor > Malone > VII back to Windigo/Grand Portage. Malone was a great experience and I'm glad I did it. Without starting or ending there, I...

Re: Normally hang between the trees, but...
I have a Paria Breeze too. I use it as a back up to my hammock or on trips where I can't hang. In the summer, I use my Hennessy Hex and in the shoulder seasons use my chill gorilla fortress. I've never had a problem with either set up in bad weather. With the Hennessy, I have something like 30"...

Re: Water filter
I'm going to jump on this thread too. I see the national park recommends a purifier like bleach in addition to a filter. How many of you actually do that? I have a Sawyer Squeeze which has always been sufficient when viruses aren't a concern. Your squeeze will be fine. Personally, I believe the add...

Re: Great Lakes NPS songbird survey
I haven't read this yet, but anecdotally, here in Indiana we were instructed to take down all of our feeders this summer due to a mysterious illness causing deaths in songbirds. My understanding is that this was happening across the midwest and on the east coast. https://www.in.gov/dnr/fish-and-wild...

I agree. I assumed it would be much higher.treeplanter wrote: ↑Mon Nov 22, 2021 12:55 pm Finally had the chance to listen to this podcast. I thought it interesting that Island has had 6,400 visitors as of August. I figured it'd be more.

Re: Superior storm 11/11/21
I was pheasant hunting in SD this week. On Wednesday, the wind was out of the north gusting into the 70's and sustained in the 50's. It howled all night and Thursday it was only 40's/30's. Even the small stock ponds were whitecapping. I can't imagine what it was like on the lady.

Re: Isle Royale Presentation
Yes it is 7pm Pacific time. Chief, where do you live (in broad brush strokes)? My wife is from California and went to school/lived in San Luis Obispo for a few years. That central coast area is so beautiful. I've always enjoyed the visits to that area almost as much as the visits to the Sierras.
