Re: Rock Harbor to Chippewa Harbor in one day

I'm mentioning this in case you were relishing the prospect of the 17 mile walk from RH to Chippewa!) On a related side note, I'd like to challenge anyone to step off the Voyageur II at Rock Harbor and then beat it to the Malone Bay campground, 33 miles distant, for a pickup the next day. Or maybe ...

Re: Queen Done For the Season

They put some Queen IV passengers on the Ranger II (from RH to mainland) this morning and have chartered a bus to take them from Houghton to Copper Harbor when they get in. The Queen IV went out early this morning and just arrived at RH (9 am) to bring a load back, and plans to make a second run th...

Queen Done For the Season

Re: 5 Day Menu

I started reading that website quite a few years ago and realized that you could dehydrate just about anything. It all comes down to how long it lasts and how well it rehydrates. I ate my last freeze dried entree around 2014. Full Disclosure: I still buy the MH freeze dried ice cream.

Once you get it figured out, you'll leave MH behind. I started figuring it out with https://www.backpackingchef.com

5 Day Menu

I just shut off the dehydrator about 3 hours ago. There are 3 of us and a majority of the meals came out of dehydrators (the units) Breakfasts: some bars and instant oatmeal for 2 of us, but my son is eating sweet potatoes and sausage from the units. Lunches: Beef jerky and various fruit leathers fr...

Very cool. We leave Wednesday to catch the Queen and we're hoping that we have something similar to experience.

Ingo wrote: Wed Aug 24, 2022 11:59 am You're hitting all the favorites! I might head out for Daisy right off the boat on day 1--that would give you a layover day along the way.
I agree. If you don't take a zero day, that would also let you spend your last night in RH and do the Stoll trail that morning before jumping on the boat.

Masks are recommended, but not required.
Got a link to a reference so I can update the post?
I don't see any mask related notices among the alerts now.

Re: Algae blooms in Richie and Chickenbone

Depending on how you route yourself, there may be ok water at Lake Lesage or Lake Livermore, or McCargoe Cove, within 2 miles of WCB campsite. Maybe you can work with that and manage your fill-ups to have essentially a dry camp at WCB? I'll take a look at options. We'd either be coming from Lane or...

Re: Coffee On The Isle

French press worked great for coffee quality! I had a generic Amazon backpacking french press with an aluminum pot and silicone lid. The pot was pretty inefficient to heat compared to my other cook pots. To save weight it doubled as my cook pot so I used about 3 times more fuel than usual but that ...
