Re: CPAP Machine

Any experience with a CPAP on IR? Oh!, I had a terrible experience. :( Back in June 2000, 4 of us made my first power boat trip with a good friend's boat. We mostly base camped out of Daisy Farm. My friend had a portable CPAP but all I remember about the unit is the battery died or broke the very f...

Re: Durston tent alternative?

I have a 2 person Go Lite tent that I bought a few years ago, mainly for backpacking the Minong. The tent and everything included weighs 3 pounds. It has a rain fly and foot print. It is supposedly a 2 person tent but would be tight with two people. It worked very well for me and my gear, as I am so...

Re: Minong Closed until June 15th

The Minong was our first choice last year and our first choice this year. Now it is next year's first choice. Ah, flexibility Back when I was still able to hike/climb mountains, I heeded the saying, " The mountain isn't going anywhere." On those days that the weather didn't look good or i...

Re: One word for Isle Royale National Park

I love putting out that auto reply email message saying I will have No Service for 10 days ;) a garmin (delorme) inreach is plenty enough connection for me. Limited messaging. Family only. No wifi. No email. Safety ensured. Kudos to you sneakymonkey! I like your attitude and solution! For those who...

Re: One word for Isle Royale National Park

But someday? Technology will steadily improve making cell phone transmitters easy and cheap to do....anywhere. But who knows when. Hopefully, not at Isle Royale though. I go to Isle Royale for lots of reasons. One reason is to get away from cell phones and computer screens. The island is special an...

Re: One word for Isle Royale National Park

I think there has been discussion about putting "tower or towers" At Ojibway and Ishpeming tower (not sure what would be needed to cover the park). I know there has been similar conversations at other parks (including Yellowstone). My concern is the person at the campground on their phone...

Re: 1st IR trip - June 19-27, 2021

Here's our ugly mugs. I hope to meet you too! Here is my mug shot. I will be the tall, thin dirt bagger with a green Wenonah canoe! I think spending an extra day in Washington Creek/Harbor is a good way to end a memorable trip. There are some good day hiking options. You can rent a canoe/kayak and ...

Re: Isle Royale Queen III

Glad to hear that you are one of the lucky ones who never had the awful experience of being seasick! I can imagine that there was a chain reaction with the experience you witnessed! The old boat sure does have a bad reputation that hopefully the latest version can overcome.

Re: Isle Royale Queen III

Treeplanter, did any of your trips on the Isle Royale Queen III ever involve "feeding the fish?"

I will admit to feeding the fish once on the Voyager II.

Looks like a great plan/trip! Like others have said, you will be back!

I just saw your dates. I am tentatively planning on taking the Voyageur II out to Isle Royale and back to Grand Portage on those same dates! I look forward to meeting you and talking about your trip.

Re: Canoe route suggestions/general questions

I pulled out some old photos of the portage and posted them in "Pictures". Ingo, looking at your pictures explains why it was as bad as I remember! I traveled from Duncan Bay to Tobin Harbor and had a difficult time finding the portage to begin with. I didn't stop at the top and continued...

Re: Canoe route suggestions/general questions

Belle Isle is my favorite, though, and almost always seem to be treated to spectacular sunrises. Ingo always has good information to share and I have surely benefited from his experience/advice in my past trips to Isle Royale! You cannot go wrong in using his advice! I am adding a picture taken on ...
