Re: Snowshoe Tracks????
Lot more activity today, February 1st. Look like ski-tracks along the bottom edge of the photo.

Snowshoe Tracks????
I just noticed what appear to be snowshoe tracks up on the Greenstone. I was wondering if the winter study had begun, so I guess it has. Or am I looking at something else? Thoughts?

Re: Amygdaloid Island
I haven't been to Amygdaloid Island since 1995. Then, and now, there is no formal trail system on the island, but you can bushwack. Re: Large Clearing At McCargoe Cove
Just looked at their management plan, and the area surrounding the McCargoe campground is designated "non-wilderness", so clearings such as this are allowed. I'll be curious as to what others think, when they get there.

Re: New Food Storage Guidelines in Effect
.......Hunger, of course, is the motivation. Have the new wolves been eating beaver? I was in favor of the reintroduction but it's probably folly for us to think we can understand and account for, let alone control, all the factors and it would appear that some of those factors are still unknown ...

Re: favorite trail and campsite
Favorite trail: probably the westbound section of the Minong from McCargoe Cove to Otter Lake, mainly because Otter Lake just appears out of nowhere. You have no idea the lake is there until you find yourself on a ridge a few hundred feet above it.

Re: Winter Study update
....I wonder if global warming is also, contributing to the decline in the moose population.

Re: Winter Study update
The winter study was suspended on February 2nd. Unsafe ice conditions forced the team to return to the mainland. They may return this winter if cold weather returns. Very preliminary observations were that more moose calfs were noticed than last year.
