Just saw on Instagram that the 2023 Winter Study is underway. A small crew arrived on the Island on Friday, January 20th. They plan on posting periodic updates as time allows.

Pretty sure the Guest House is next to the Lodge (east) and is where you go to log onto the internet. Has a fireplace, couches, chairs, etc. Old photos on the wall, and some books too.

Edit: Also has an upstairs. Last time I was there, the stairway was roped off.

I have a Keweenaw County plat book (circa 2000). It only has a general map of Isle Royale, not anything detailed.

One thing the article did say is that the Park Service went through the same exercise in 2011. They never implemented it.

I don't think the lights to the right are from Thunder Bay. The camera is pointed strongly southwest, and Thunder Bay is about a 90 degrees angle to the right, probably out of the range of the camera. I wondered if the lights are from a passing freighter.

Nice! Seems to be a higher-res camera too. Nice display of fall color right now.

I wonder if day visitors are part of these numbers? I've met a few people who have taken the Queen to IR just for the day.
